Job Summary

This position is engaged with critical work providing design, build, and operational support expertise for projects leveraging advanced database technologies. Participates in architecting, designing, implementing, and configuration enterprise database technology products which include but are not limited to: Working knowledge of Oracle Database (RAC, EE), Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Microsoft SQL Server family of products, MySQL and AWS database services is necessary. A working knowledge of MongoDB, Maria DB, IBM DB2, would be a plus. Leads troubleshooting and analysis activities for Database technologies. Provides multiple site support of the installation, upgrading, testing, and maintenance of software and hardware. Creates detailed work plans for both installation and continuing maintenance. Conducts tests and monitors new installations. Develops automation and scripting to install, configure, and patch solutions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides highly technical, ongoing support of databases and the associated environments.

  • Directs the installation, upgrade, testing and maintenance of multiple database environments.

  • Directs installation and deployment of security patches across the database environments and ensures adherence to change control policies.

  • Writes and coordinates technical standards and procedures.

  • Directs the monitoring and tuning on a regular basis. Produces statistics on performance and is responsible for identifying and resolving performance problems.

  • Conducts problem resolution. Performs research and testing to determine cause and makes necessary corrections.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge:
    Comprehensive knowledge pertaining to concepts and principles in functional area. General knowledge of department/business lines, Reserve Banks, and / or System operations, policies, procedures and technologies.

  • Communications: Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, creativity, attention to detail, and oral and written communications skills tailored for the intended audience.

  • Risk Management: Is responsible for understanding and applying risk management discipline in decision making, and contributing to his or her function`s risk management.

  • Decision Making: Works under direction and guidance in planning details of procedures and methods to attain definite objectives. Makes decisions within established or widely accepted standards. Achieves assigned/planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, training, business principles, and practical experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • Strong to expert level skills in Database Server Products

  • Advanced skill levels Oracle Database (RAC, EE), Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Exadata Database Machine.

  • High skill levels in Microsoft SQL Server product family, Cloud native and hybrid database solutions.

  • Strong experience supporting MySQL, IBM DB2, and open source database server solutions.

  • Must have a strong understanding of design principles that include building scalable and fault-tolerant solutions

  • Several years' experience designing, implementing and supporting large critical enterprise environments for top financial institutions

  • Proficient PC Skills - (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, SSH and other technical software)

  • Clear, concise and accurate written technical paper(s) such as Technical Guidelines, operational procedures, manuals, and configuration documentation.

  • Respond to change in a positive manner and willingness to shift your work or schedule in response to the demands of the situation.

  • Directs the installation, upgrade, testing and maintenance of multiple database server environments.

  • Directs installation and deployment of security patches across the database server environment and ensures adherence to change control policies.

  • Writes and coordinates technical standards and procedures.

  • Directs the monitoring and tuning on a regular basis. Produces statistics on performance and is responsible for identifying and resolving performance problems.

  • Conducts problem resolution. Performs research and testing to determine cause and makes necessary corrections.

  • Resolve escalated (Level 2) support and/or outage tickets.

  • Troubleshoot large complex infrastructure environments

o Must leverage basic network, routing, and subnet knowledge

o Knowledge of Network protocols and authentication methodologies

o Knowledge of application load balancers and Proxy functionality

o Knowledge of Operating Systems, to include knowledge of installation, configurations, and performance optimization.

  • Design, implementation, maintenance, and contingency strategy experience in a high volume, mission critical, time-sensitive environment.

  • Document system designs, train peers, and operational staff

  • The ability to troubleshoot issues and determine root cause quickly in a high pressure environment.

  • The ability to troubleshoot/diagnose proprietary software issues (Memory Leaks, Buffer Overflows, etc), and then work with our vendors to obtain the proper product patches.

  • Performs work with high degree of independence and administrative responsibility.

  • Strong understanding of web application servers and the configuration of resources

  • Plus if candidate has well-rounded implementation experience with different types of firewalls including Network Layer (packet filters), Application Layer, and Proxies. This experience must include in-depth knowledge of providing for session breaks (i.e. mediation) between different networks and zones, plus isolating green zones from red zones.

  • Familiarity of key monitoring metrics

o TCP/IP knowledge

o Understanding of J2EE application deployment patterns and n-tier architectures

o Experience in AIX/Linux systems administration, shell, python, Unix, and PowerShell scripting, networking, storage and security concepts

o Provide performance monitoring and tuning recommendations.

o Make recommendations for, and implement, appropriate security structures.

  • Develop UNIX scripts to support automation of the installation, configuration, patching, monitoring and maintenance of Web Application Server products.

Other/Additional Requirements:

Working Conditions: Will require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.

Physical Demands: Requires some degree of sitting (for prolonged periods of time), standing, lifting carrying, pushing, pulling more than 20 lbs.

Hours of Work: May require extended work hours. Occasional travel including overnight stays may be necessary. May be subject to on-call and call back as needed. May be exposed to moderate noise from equipment.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Resident Status with three or more years of U.S. residency.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with 6 to 9 years of relevant work experience.
