Job Description:

We are currently looking for a dynamic individual as a Scientist Synthesis for our Advanced Materials Division at our Advanced Technology Center located in The Woodlands, Texas.

The scope of the position is to develop high performance materials based on both thermoset and thermoplastic chemistry for the Advanced Materials business. This position entails new polymeric material discovery and exploring new synthetic processes, modifying existing synthetic processes, performing and understanding material properties as they relate to structural performance in the field of advance composite systems.

What will be expected from you?

  • Plans and conduct research to develop new generation high performance materials utilized in the field of polymer matrix composite (PMC)

  • Generate original and innovative ideas and solutions to PMC synthesis problems.

  • Generates options and alternatives that encourage different and unique ways of looking at things

  • Ability to logically break down material problems into their essential elements and develop solutions through novel monomer and polymer synthesis.

  • Modify existing thermoset materials to improve their cost/performance characteristics.

  • Communicate research results to stakeholders through reports and presentations

  • Create and protect intellectual property for the company

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?

  • PhD or PhD Candidate in Organic Chemistry, Polymer / Material Science that is set to graduate within 6 months;

  • MS degree with 3+ years' experience in organic/ polymer / material chemistry, can include academic research

  • BS degree with 5+ years' experience in organic synthesis of small molecules and polymer

  • Extensive hands on experience in organic/polymer chemistry fundamentals and material characterization

  • Strong understanding of chemical reactivity and material structure-property relationship
