POSITION:
School Counselor
Advisory Council: School Counselor (25 positions available)
NYC Public Schools' College and Career Planning team, in the Office of Student Pathways, is seeking to fill up to 25 School Counselor positions on our College and Career Advisory Council. The College and Career Advisory Council will support the development of central supports for high quality, culturally and linguistically responsive college and career advising by including the voices of staff and students. College and Career Advisory Council members will participate in leadership development to support the professionalization of the field and to codify a standard for high quality advising system wide.
The College and Career Planning Team is looking for strong postsecondary practitioners to help shape and refine the professional learning content shared with school staff. Advisory Council members will also facilitate adult learning and provide important feedback on the tools and resources the College and Career Planning Team provides.
The College and Career Advisory Council supervisor is Kimberly Hall, of the College and Career Planning Team.
LOCATION:
These hybrid meetings will be held at 110 William Street 15th floor, and on Teams
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
NYCDOE (New York City Department of Education) licensed and appointed Middle and High School Guidance Counselors.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
At least three (3) years of satisfactory (Highly Effective/Effective) experience within the NYCDOE in addition to the following:
School-based experience with college and career readiness in the last three years
Knowledge of all DOE policies and procedures regarding guidance and promotion requirements
Experience guiding students through the college application and enrollment process
Experience with one-on-one post-secondary counseling
Familiarity with transition/linkage coordination
Willingness to learn new skills and commitment to attend professional development activities
Demonstrated success working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
Access to laptop/desktop and internet connectivity
Willingness to work evenings at least once per month
Familiarity with STARS, transcript evaluation and review
Must be able to attend all scheduled meetings
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meet with other group members as scheduled
Offer input on College and Career Planning Team supports and resources
Provide user experience feedback on College and Career Planning Team supports and resources
Serve as content developers on professional learning for school staff
Serve as facilitators during live professional development
Advise and advocate on policy structures and changes in postsecondary advising
Facilitate activities to support professional growth of school staff
WORK SCHEDULE:
Up to 35 hours from October 2024 - June 2025. Specific dates to be determined. Additional hours granted upon the approval of the hiring manager. Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed.
SALARY:
Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
