POSITION:

Guidance Counselor - Home Schooling Office/ Division of Curriculum and Instruction (up to three (3) positions)

LOCATION:

Work is to only be conducted in person at either 333 7th Avenue in Manhattan or 65 Court Street in Brooklyn

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

New York City Department of Education licensed and appointed Guidance Counselor

SELECTION CRITERIA:

• At least three (3) years of satisfactory experience within the NYCDOE.

• Must have hands-on experience with and comprehensive understanding of ATS and enrollment/discharge policies and procedures, including enrollment of students new to the public school system.

• Familiarity with all home schooling procedures and policies

• Knowledge of NYCDOE's Chancellor's Regulations A-101, A-210, A-501, and A-750

• Knowledge of New York State Education Department Commissioner's Regulation Part 100.10

• Strong background in pupil personnel services and public service

• Knowledge of NYCDOE's policies regarding guidance and graduation requirements

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Outlook

• Ability to make appropriate referrals to alternative pathways to graduation as needed, including Transfer Schools, YABC/LTW, and TASC programs

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support Home Schooling office in review of home schooling documents, including Letters of Intent to register for home school, requests to discharge students, as well as support efforts to confirm attendance status of students

• Review parent submissions to ensure compliance with New York State regulations

• Speak with parents/guardians over the phone or email for working papers and/or other guidance functions.

• Conduct outreach efforts as needed to parents, public and nonpublic schools, and coordinate with other City agencies including the Administration for Children's Services.

WORK SCHEDULE:

July 15, 2024 - October 31, 2024 as determined.

Work schedule to be determined, no school holidays or weekends between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM, not including regular work hours. Up to 25 hours/week.

Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
