POSITION:

TEACHER

Selectors for New York City Teaching Collaborative (NYCTC) program

(up to 30 Positions available)

Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality

LOCATION:

Interviews will take place in various locations in Brooklyn, including Cobble Hill School of American Studies (347 Baltic Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201), the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (65 Court Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201), and 131 Livingston Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) licensed and appointed teacher in good standing.

  • Graduate of NYC Teaching Collaborative (NYCTC) Cohorts 1-10

  • Previous experience with either the NYCTC or the Fall cohort of NYCTF as a Lead Instructor, or Lead Coach or Collaborative Coach.

  • Minimum of 2 years full-time classroom experience, in at least one of the following certification areas: Science, Math, ESL/ENL, Special Education, English, Bilingual, and/or Social Studies.

  • Demonstrated satisfactory service in current Department of Education position and other per session activities.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Comfort working with computers and the Internet, must be able to type quickly, navigate multiple tabs simultaneously, and take running records and use online platforms to conduct virtual interviews with ease and efficiency.

  • Commitment to the NYCTC mission, and to finding and selecting a diverse and high-quality pool of candidates for NYCTC who will be able to further that mission.

  • Ability to utilize a detailed selection model and rubrics to evaluate and select applicants to the NYC Teaching Collaborative program.

  • Evidence of highly effective facilitation and clear communication skills.

  • Evidence of strong written communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate evaluations of candidates' proficiency.

  • Evidence of strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to problem solve, reflect on data, and make difficult decisions.

  • Evidence of effective use of organizational skills and time management.

  • Evidence of ability to receive and reflect on feedback and adjust professional practice when necessary.

  • Ability to facilitate small group sessions on specific techniques to novices unfamiliar with certain teaching techniques.

  • Previous experience selecting in a virtual setting for the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitation:

  • Deliver an engaging introduction and accurately answer any questions and share personal experience with the NYCTC program.

  • Facilitate an instructional, practice-based session on certain teaching technique and provide accurate and meaningful feedback to applicants during the interview event.

  • Follow selection day schedule as determined by the Selection and Enrollment team and facilitate all activities in a timely fashion.

  • Internalize a script for multiple activities and facilitate in a clear and engaging tone.

  • Provides accurate directions for all selection day activities including correct timing of each activity.

Securing Evidence

  • Comfortably use a computer to take notes on each candidate and record candidate scores simultaneously; troubleshoot computer related issues independently (turning on computer, logging into Zoom, etc.)
  • Attentively multi-task; take detailed notes on candidate, while also asking candidates questions and providing time cues.

Evaluating Evidence:

  • Evaluate applicants exclusively using the criteria set by the program selection model and the selection day rubric.

  • Maintain complete, accurate and timely documentation on each candidate during and after every interview.

  • Write a thorough and holistic evaluation that contains direct evidence and synthesis for each candidate.

Professionalism and Preparedness:

  • Complete Interviewer training(s) successfully in Summer 2024 (see "Work Schedule" below)

  • Respond in a timely and professional manner to staff inquiries regarding scheduling, feedback, and other related administrative requirements.

  • Interact with central staff, selectors, and candidates in a positive and respectful manner.

  • Manage personal scheduling accurately and efficiently via Internet-based scheduling program.

  • Attend all scheduled events each month.

  • Arrive at virtual interview events on or before the required time.

  • Reflect on selection data throughout season and adjust practice accordingly.

  • Convey a positive and professional image of the New York City Teaching Collaborative program.

WORK SCHEDULE:

TR Rate:

Summer 2024: 4-8 hours of training/onboarding

July-November 2024: 4 hours per selector events with 2-7 interview events per month

Various dates and times, including after school, evenings, and weekends. Schedules will be determined by need and availability. Hours up to, but not limited to 8 hours (2 events) per month, additional hours granted upon approval of the hiring manager.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
