Supervisors to serve as Content Trainers for the following June 2024 New York State Regents or World Language assessments

Algebra I: June 6 - June 11; 30 hours; 577 openings

Physical Setting/Chemistry: June 22 - June 27; 30 hours; 152 openings

Physical Setting/Physics: June 25 - June 30; 30 hours; 79 openings

Spanish WL: June 25 - June 29; 23 hours; 311 openings

Korean WL: June 25 - June 28; 16 hours; 3 openings

Chinese WL (Traditional): June 25 - June 26: 5 hour(s); 1 opening

Chinese WL (Simplified): June 25 - June 29; 23 hours; 37 openings

French WL: June 25 - June 29; 23 hours; 27 openings

Italian WL: June 25 - June 29; 23 hours; 16 openings

  • Note that end dates and expected hours are subject to change based on the volume of exams administered.

  • Dates listed above do not include a mandatory, 3-hour training/norming session. The date and location of the training session will be communicated to all selected personnel upon being offered the position. All training takes place after the regular workday.

  • Applicants will be required to work at the scoring site to which they are assigned.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

New York City Department of Education currently appointed EAs, Principals, and Assistant Principals.

  • Applicants with an unsatisfactory or ineffective rating in the 2022 - 2023 or 2021 - 2022 school year are not eligible to be selected for this activity.

  • Applicants who have received an unsatisfactory rating for an Office of Assessment per session activity are not eligible to be selected for this activity.

  • Applicants will be required to work in person for the duration of the assignment.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

All candidates must:

  • Be available to attend the full training and scoring commitment for the particular NYS Regents or World Language exam, as indicated in the table above and/or scheduled by the Scoring Site Supervisor. Training or scoring which occurs on school days will start at 4:30pm; training or scoring which takes place on Saturday or Sunday will start at 8:30am.   • Demonstrate ability/experience in effectively engaging an audience when delivering professional development trainings.

  • Demonstrate ability to lead trainings for scorers, including:

  • Providing clear guidance on application of the scoring rubric to student responses.

  • Clarifying by responding to inquiries related to scoring.

  • Monitoring scoring to assure that protocols are being followed.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO:

  • Have been nominated by a June 2024 BAID to serve as a Content Trainer for June 2024 per session scoring.

  • Nominations must be submitted directly to Office of Assessment and must be received by 11:59pm on May 10, 2024 to receive consideration.

  • Hold fluency (reading abilities, writing abilities, speaking abilities, oral and written translation abilities, and familiarity with academic vocabulary) in one or more foreign languages (including but not limited to Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Haitian/Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Trainers will:

  • Attend a training session and a planning session outside of scoring hours (determined by Site Supervisors, consistent with date ranges above). The time and location of the training session will be communicated to all selected personnel upon being offered the position.

  • Assist with coordination of the scoring activities.

  • Prepare for scoring using DOE materials and NYSED rating guide.

  • Create scoring committees in collaboration with the Site Supervisor and/or Organizational Team Lead. Assign table leaders.

  • Train scorers and provide support for scorers during scoring.

  • Monitor and maintain scoring rates.

  • Escalate cases of suspected cheating, materials discrepancies, and sensitive papers to Site Supervisor and/or Organizational Team Lead (when necessary).

  • Assist with scoring (whenever possible).

  • Supervise Teachers serving as Content Trainers (when necessary).

  • In order to maintain continuity and consistency of scoring, applicants must be available for the full expected dates and hours of the activity in order to accept the position.

Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
