Summary: To enhance the education of students the School Nurse performs multiple duties related to the health functions of International School of Louisiana. The Nurse is responsible for the record keeping, state reporting and administering medication and First Aid. The School Nurse is part of the ISL Academic team and shares in the duties and daily school operations in the International School of Louisiana by promoting the health and well-being of all students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Meet those standards of performance for nursing assignment developed by International School of Louisiana and all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines.
Know and adapt the standards of nursing practice to a school setting.
Conduct and coordinate health-screening programs at periodic intervals, or on referral, as specified by local, state, or federal mandates.
Refer identified health problems to the appropriate resource for correction and/or amelioration.
Initiate follow-up of identified health problems as required.
Interpret health status and/or problems to student, parent, and school personnel and make recommendations when appropriate.
Plan, coordinate, and implement a program of health instruction.
Serve as a resource to school personnel regarding various aspects of health education.
Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students, and complete required administrative records.
Assist in the control of communicable disease in the schools.
Assess and assist in maintaining a safe and healthful school environment.
Serve as a member of the student assistance teams.
Participate in staff professional development and all scheduled in-service education sessions.
Provides medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration (based on Louisiana state regulations), and provides care to ill children on a daily basis, including first aid to injured students and staff.
Maintains comprehensive school health records
Participates on the school's Interdisciplinary Team
Maintains the school nurses office/clinic (equipment and supplies)
Administers or coordinates vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening. Refers for follow up evaluation when needed
Assists with school registration and interprets health requirements.
Assists in the development of individualized student health care plans.
Participates in student centered school team meetings, as appropriate.
Acts as a resource for health education for Students and ISL Community
Enters Student information into the state's Immunization Database (LINKS)
Files and catalogues student information regarding health related issues
Maintains accurate records of student health information
Creates health protocol for contagious diseases school wide
Works in coordination with the school social worker in identifying psycho-social needs and implementation of action plan
Assures that all student files have the required information for health purposes
Conduct annual trainings: CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, Medication Administration, etc.
Maintain and improve professional competence.
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
Maintain compliance with all school policies and procedures
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications, Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor degree Required
RN/LPN licensed in the states of Louisiana. Minimum of two years nursing experience, school environment preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
Computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook)
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
