PAUL MUNRO ELEMENTARY Reports to: BUILDING ADMINISTRATOR Date: 06/04/2024POSITION SUMMARY The Behavioral Assistant reports to the building administrator.This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. The employee will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other related duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.

Lynchburg City Schools reserves the right to update, revise, or change this job description and related duties at any time. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Complies with all applicable policies and regulations of Lynchburg City Schools. 2.

Works with the student's teacher(s) to provide positive behavioral supports, crisis intervention and management, redirection and de-escalation techniques. 3. Under the direction of the school psychologist, collaborates with school staff to implement intervention and prevention strategies for students. 4. Assists with charting student behavior and performance on a daily basis. 5.

Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. 6. Meets with the student's teacher(s) daily to secure information on student's objectives, learning activities, strategies and progress. 7. Under the supervision of the school psychologist and teacher's direction, assists student in exhibiting age-appropriate classroom behaviors needed to learn. 8.

Facilitates student's classroom integration and participation in group activities. 9. Attends to personal needs of child, e.g. toileting, changing, positioning, and lifting as outlined in the plan of care and IEP. 10. Attends field trips, therapy and special resource classes with the student. 11.

Provides behavioral support to the student during the bus trip, to and from the bus and on and off the bus. 12. Attends in-district professional development activities, as appropriate to job duties. 13. When assigned student is absent or appropriately engaged with others, contribute to the classroom education program if not reassigned to another child or classroom.

If assigned student is absent, report to the school office for reassignment. 14. Support the teacher and student with the use of assistive technology. 15. Perform other appropriate duties assigned by the special education case manager, school psychologist, or principal.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of attendance laws/regulations/policies, intervention/prevention strategies, and referral sources. Ability to conduct telephone-based or in-person interviews, data collection, and data entry.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening, empathy, and relationship building. Ability to interact in a non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations and persons experiencing a wide range of social conditions. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to use sound judgment in responding to client issues and concerns.

Ability to adapt to changing environments and receive constructive feedback. Knowledge of and experience with the Lynchburg City Schools organization, policies, and practices (preferred). Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality, and ethical conduct. Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, establishing and maintaining collaborative professional relationships.

Strong time management skills (organization, prioritization, multitasking). Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency with use of computers (desktop, laptop, tablet). Proficiency with use of mobile devices (smartphones, mobile apps). Solid knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office and Google Drive, and ability to learn new technical programs/practices as needed. Solid knowledge and understanding of equitable practices that create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for LCS staff, students, and community members.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Reliable transportation, necessary Travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed Minimal travel outside of the City of Lynchburg as needed.
