How this role contributes to the Y's mission:

As a Y Swim Instructor, you will have the opportunity to teach children and adults the joy and life skill of swimming and safety in and around the water. You will be supported in your work as a part of the leading mission-driven organization for strengthening community, and the area's largest provider of swim lessons. The Y Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students of all ages in swimming classes. You'll contribute to the Y and to the community by enhancing the well-being and safety of all.

VIEW JOBS 1/18/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-04-17T00:00 Aerospace Academy Summer Camp Instructor (Temporary) Temporary Full -Time Summer Camp Instructor - CPD Aerospace Academy: Provide professional instruction for Continuing & Professional Development (CPD) Summer camp classes offered through San Jacinto College including the Central, North, and/or South campuses as well as other off-site locations if necessary. Meet course training objectives with excellent instructor evaluations. Instructors employed as part-time faculty are not entitled to all the rights, privileges, and benefits of regular, full-time employees. Part-time faculty are hired on an "as needed" basis and will work for the duration of time specified by the respective course. Chief Responsibilities: * Teach key concepts in a variety of formats: hands-on, direct instruction, group work and one-on-one with students with curriculum provided by San Jacinto College's Aerospace department NASA grant * Utilize provided instructional material, activities, guest speakers, and field trips to instruct 6-8th grade students. * Provide overall safety and oversight of the students * Provide cleaning/ organizing/repairing of instructional materials and equipment as needed * Flexibility to teach at one or more campuses as needed * Communicate and treat children, parents, and coworkers with professionalism, dignity and respect * Fill out all required San Jac documentation (timesheet, class rolls, etc.) * Participate in extracurricular activities such as the college tour * Communicate with SJCD staff as to the supplies and needs for the class. Provide feedback to SJ on what works and what doesn't. * Assist in cleaning classroom daily * Help with distributing lunch, snack and drinks daily * Insure that students exit the class and go home with correct family pickup * Take part in course trainings and weekly staff meetings, to occur before and/or after camp on a designated day each week * Assist with set up before camp starts and classroom turnover at the end of each week as necessary * Fill out roster of daily attendance * Other duties as required Required Qualifications: * Bachelor degree in STEM field from an accredited college or an Education (teaching) degree * Experience teaching youth on STEM topics with effective classroom management skills (volunteer experience will be considered) * Knowledge of aerospace industry * Information technology skills * Effective oral and written communication skills * Responsible, punctual, friendly, and enthusiastic * Be able to commit to teaching for 1or more (up to 7) weeks in June and July 2019 * Clean driving record and must have own form of reliable transportation * Willing to undergo background check Preferred qualifications: * 7-12 Teacher certification in science, technology, or math is preferred * Experience working in the Houston area aerospace industry * Master's degree in STEM field * Two or more years of teaching summer camps for middle and high school students is preferred * Demonstrated skills and experience in one of the following subjects: * Computer Programming * 3D Design and Printing * Coding and Programming * Robotics * Drone Flight, Aviation * Circuitry (Arduino and Raspberry Pi) or Engineering * First Aid/CPR certification preferred Working information: * Position pays $32/hr. * Classes will take place over 7-8 weeks in June and July 2020 from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 7:30am to 12:00pm on Fridays. * Teaching site locations are San Jacinto College's North, Central and South campuses.
