Swim Instructor

General Description

If you have a passion for the water and love teaching others this might be the job for you! Swim instructors will teach participants with a variety of ages and skill levels. They may teach group lessons or private lessons as assigned. Instructors are responsible for lesson planning, classroom management, communicating with participants and guardians, and keeping participants safe (with the assistance of a lifeguard). Teaching equipment provided.

School Year Schedule:

Regular Private Lesson Instructor needed for future sessions:

• Tuesday

• 5:00 - 7:00 PM, scheduled by instructor

• Monday/Wednesday/Thursday

• 5:15 - 7:15 PM may also be an option

• Private lesson instructors paid 1 hour for each 30-minute lesson ($16.00 per 30 minutes of instruction).

Substitute Instructors Needed for:

• Tuesday Parent Child Classes

• 5:00

• 5:30 PM; 5:35 - 6:05 PM; 6:10 - 6:40 PM

Classes scheduled in sessions of 4 weeks. Instructors typically teach multiple classes on a weeknight.

No classes held on major holidays or during Syble Hopp school breaks!

Work Location: Most classes are taught at Syble Hopp pool during the school year with a small selection being taught in the summer season at our outdoor pools.

Pay Range: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and candidates will be notified when a new recruitment process begins. Applicants do not need to be a City of De Pere resident.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to teach a variety of skill levels and ages.

• Ability to communicate and work well with the public.

• Energy, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness.

• Understanding of advanced swimming techniques.

• Experience planning swim lessons.

Minimum Requirements & Physical Requirements

• At least 16 years of age, preferably 18+.

• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification.

• Experience in swim lesson instruction or something equitable.

• Ability to perform & instruct aquatic fitness classes.
