Roles and Responsibilities
Opportunities currently exist within SVTAD's Seapower and Sensor Systems Department (SSS) in San Diego, CA.
The SSS department provides system engineering, integration, and test expertise to the radar, sensor and ship systems programs within IDS.
SSS Engineers are involved in all aspects of the Integrated Product Development System (IPDS) cycle.
SSS engineers have ownership authority to ensure that individual items are integrated and perform as expected as well as ensuring that the system can be sold off.
In San Diego CA some of the programs SVTAD SSS supports are the Ship Self Defense System (SSDS), GPS-based Position, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS), Landing Platform Dock (LPD) programs and Zumwalt Total Ship Activation.
This position can be a Salary Grade G08 or G09 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.
Job Description:
Develop test plans, test procedures, conduct formal testing, perform test analysis, troubleshooting, operate command & control systems on various Navy programs.
Perform hardware integration and test / maintenance on numerous shipboard combat systems (these systems consist primarily of COTS hardware, including various servers, switches and routers, VME and cPCI technology, various I/O protocols, fiber optics, PC's, SUN's, etc..) locally in the Combat Management Systems (CMS) Integration and Test Lab, and occasionally at Government labs, shipboard and abroad.
Communicate with users and customers, and conduct and/or participate in meetings.
Flexible to perform a multitude of tasks to include system and unit level testing and troubleshooting, documentation, field change installations, and multitasking.
Able to work in a lab and shipboard environment with lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy equipment and climb ladders and maneuvering in the work area.
Travel to support testing in locations such as Wallops Island, MD, and customer and specific integration locations as needed.
Required Skills:
Four (4) + years overall engineering experience with system and unit-level trouble-shooting
Experience in a commercial and/or military electronics
Experience working with a MS Windows and Linux Operating Systems Information Technology (IT) Expert.
Preferred Skills
Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) Experience
Familiar with electrical / electronic cabling and pin-outs
Able to read drawings / schematics
Basic programming Test Equipment Design and Assembly Mechanically proficient to use various hand tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills
