Position Summary

The SVP Development will serve as a key member of Discovery Channel's Senior Management Team, contributing to strategic planning, network direction, channel management and responsible for executing programming strategies on series through the development process.

Responsibilities
1.Serve as key external and internal spokesperson for the network with major constituents and clients. Develop new relationships and maintain existing relationships with agents, producers, and writers for all genres.2. Provide the strategic and creative vision for the development teams that fulfills the network programming strategy as articulated by the senior management team. Provide insight into the core promise of content concepts and create original and innovative approaches that deliver for the audience.3. Responsible for creating new, innovative approaches, refining approach and audience targets based on extensive research. Responsible for spotting trends, understanding ad sales and network rating expectations.4. Maximize product integration opportunities and create new relationships and ways of working with advertisers, corporate partners, program participants, and co-producers.5. Coordinate with Business Affairs to option properties, represent network investment ranges, rights, approvals and expectations for project.6. Represent the network to outside organizations and maintain both internal and external partnerships. Manage daily work, career growth, training and development of staff.7. Manage Development Department staff for maximum quality, creativity and efficiency. Provide creative leadership that unlocks the strategic and creative potential of the team. Foster and environment of creative and innovative problem solving.8. Inform and involve key departments on projects throughout all stages of the pipeline to maximize their value to the company.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years progressive, senior-level programming experience

  • Experience in long-form and short-from non-fictional genres, general entertainment, and/or LIVE TV events.

  • Proven record of demonstrated creativity with an ability to generate new ideas and translate them into high-quality TV programs.

  • An independent thinker and idea-generator who is also a team player.

  • Proficiency in TV production economics and management. Skilled in negotiating, deal structuring and closing.

  • Ability to manage outside producers, build credibility and strong working relationships with other internal executives and generate commitment to goals.

  • Outstanding editorial judgment and creative abilities, strong verbal and written communications skills, and demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of skills, training and hands-on experience.

  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.

As a Business Development Analyst at Latham, you will work closely with the Senior Manager of Client Development and the Client Development Manager of Client Insight to support and advance the firm's key client relationships and provide client-specific research, analysis, and intelligence, while accomplishing these and other critical functions: * Assisting with the tracking of client account efforts which includes maintaining and auditing client team portals, as well as creating and maintaining centralized client team work product and resource storage. * Working closely with the Manager of Client Insight to support on project management and administration of global Client Insight initiatives. * Supporting data analysis and the creation of powerful and compelling reports and presentations summarizing client insight data for the firm. * Collecting and collating impact and ROI data for client insight initiatives and the broader client development program. * Producing client intelligence reports including news alerts for client teams, executive moves alerts, and top client reports. * Collecting, cataloging, and updating internal and external client intelligence and research, as well as client development resources and tools on the Client Development intranet site. * Managing the business development research site and sharing dossiers with the broader department monthly. * Acting as administrative coordinator for client team trainings as directed by Senior Manager of Client Development and Client Development Manager of Client Insight. * Assisting with Strategic Client Committee initiatives. * Aggregating and analyzing internal newsletters, mandate information, and deal announcements by clients. * Monitoring and analyzing competitor activity, product and market trends, industry research and other external data that may impact approach and plan of action. * Contributing to the maintenance of information in the firm's client relationship management (CRM) system, which requires an understanding of the various technologies and systems in place and marrying the financial data with client activities and client research. * Hosting calls and drafting agendas for the Client Development team and ensuring communication and information flow between various client account management, client targeting and cross-selling efforts. * Collaborating with other practice and industry business development teams, firm leadership, and the Strategic Client Committee to ensure alignment and consistency with the firm's overall global strategy. * Assisting with special projects as needed until completion. As a Business Development Analyst on our Client Development team, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Analyst must have excellent research, and quantitative and qualitative analytical skills including a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. The successful applicant will have the ability to analyze data from a range of sources and synthesize this into clear conclusions, as well as outstanding professional interpersonal skills, tenacity, and enthusiasm. The Analyst must have superior organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines, and the ability to work in a global team environment. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting a client account management program, as well as experience supporting a client insight or feedback program. A Bachelor's degree is required. A JD or advanced marketing, business, or science degree is a plus. Two (2) to three (3) years of experience supporting business development or marketing initiatives at a professional or financial services firm is required.
