The Senior Vice President of Advanced Technology for Wolters Kluwer (WK) Global Platform Organization (GPO) is responsible for driving the incubation and adoption of new/advanced technologies and innovation in our customer facing products. The SVP leads and develops a professional level staff, manages processes, and procures the financial resources necessary to support the Advanced Technology Center of Excellence, which includes dedicated resources who are experts in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Data Science working across all four Divisions. Key responsibilities of the SVP of Advanced Technology include: developing and maintaining a deep understanding of Division and GPO offerings while at the same time remaining current with advanced technologies within the industry; driving a culture of innovation toward the development of GPO platform technology enhancements; driving the adoption of new technologies into GPO offerings; managing and controlling departmental expenditures within agreed budgets; developing an optimal organizational structure; managing and motivating a team of highly technical and highly educated professionals; participating in organizational activities to meet or exceed company objectives; and representing Wolters Kluwer within the industry.
Experience, Knowledge and Tools
7+ years demonstrated experience developing and incorporating advanced technologies into existing product lines
5+ years increasing responsibility leading and managing a team of highly technical professionals
Incubating technologies in a company over $500M in product revenue focused on providing competitive advantage.
Demonstrated experience in creating business cases for advanced technology investments and developing and implementing technology strategies.
Experience leading and influencing business decisions in cross functional, matrixed global technology teams, including external resource management and planning.
Driving the adoption of advanced technologies across a diverse product portfolio.
Maintaining strong vendor relationships.
Experience managing and planning a complex (multi- million dollar?) operating budget
Demonstrating strong written and verbal communication.
Utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
While this role is an executive leadership position, the company strongly prefers candidates with previous hands on technical experience in working with advanced technologies (e.g., advanced search, advanced alerting, categorization, NLP) and web based technologies (e.g., java script, web services).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains a deep understanding of Wolters Kluwer's product offerings and advanced technologies within the industry by conducting on-going, in-depth research and analysis of product and solutions offerings across the company; mastering product, technical, and executive information provided in a timely manner; learning how Wolters Kluwer's products and platforms fit into client processes and contribute to their business performance; assessing product strengths and weaknesses relative to the competition and industry benchmarks; obtaining and maintaining a deep understanding of vendor platforms, products and product strategies; identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships with experts and leaders in the field; obtaining and mastering strategic information critical to the market (e.g., interests, priorities, financial requirements); and tracking and mastering technology trends and advances within the industry.
Drives a culture of innovation toward the development of product and platform technology enhancements by managing the AI Center of Excellence; driving research and development activities geared toward industry technology advances (e.g., advanced search, advanced alerting, categorization, NLP); driving the exploration of technologies outside the visibility of product/platform development teams; maintaining a favorable atmosphere for incubating new technologies; gathering and documenting data to support the incorporation of platform enhancements; collaborating with Product Management leaders to conduct due diligence and determine ROI (including benefits, investments, revenue forecasts and cost savings); contributing to execution feasibility (e.g., scope, resources, timelines) studies; facilitating the development of proposals and business cases to present technology strategies and enhancements to key stakeholders; and prioritizing opportunities such that investments are made logically, do not exceed available resources, and optimize the overall health of the business.
Drives the adoption of new technologies into GPO offerings by leveraging subject matter expertise and leadership ability to obtain buy-in and final approval from key stakeholders; communicating all goals, objectives and milestones to staff and associates; working with the senior executive team to initiate project plans; facilitating communication between teams to ensure a cohesive execution of technology initiatives; removing obstacles and resolving escalated issues in a timely manner to reduce impact on project plans; and assuming final accountability for the success of advanced technology initiatives.
Manages and controls departmental expenditures within agreed budgets by compiling financial resources required to support the activities and tools of the department; capturing and iterating budgets in standard templates; securing budget approvals; authorizing, tracking and reconciling spending against a budget throughout the year; justifying and securing unplanned resources as necessary to maintain operations; and ensuring the consistent, accurate, and timely development and communication of all financial data.
Develops an optimal organizational structure by recruiting, developing, motivating and retaining a high performance team; providing training and work opportunities to resolve issues and develop talent; mentoring and coaching staff and associates on all levels; evolving the organizational structure to meet business needs (e.g., staffing, allocating resources, delegating); and integrating organizational design and development practices to ensure appropriate partnerships and skill sets are leveraged to achieve business results.
Manages a team of highly technical and highly educated professionals by monitoring key performance indicators and team member activity; analyzing data for patterns and indicators of performance slippage; documenting and discussing performance issues with underperformers; working with the HR Business Partner to establish Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and proactive hiring plans; working with staffing team to fill open positions (e.g., providing information on candidate requirements, being available for interviews, making decisions quickly); making staff changes and additions with speed and quality; and facilitating the on-boarding/training of new team members to shorten learning curves.
Participates in organizational activities to meet or exceed company objectives by applying knowledge from background area of expertise to special projects that will help drive profitability and growth; participating in thought provoking, strategic discussions with executive management; sharing analytical, quantitative, and conceptual insights to enhance the organization; sharing insight with other leaders regarding team/department operation (e.g., performance management, strategies, company policies and procedures); identifying opportunities to collaborate across divisions and/or leverage partnerships; collaborating with peers to develop and advance company-wide initiatives and strategies; participating as a functional member of WK committees; and serving as a key business leader, thought leader, and role model within the organization.
