The Sustaining Engineer, ProductDevelopment will:
Assist with oversight in the design, development, design characterization, verification, validation and risk assessment of existing commercialized products as well new implants and instrumentation.
This includes communication with multiple cross functional disciplines, understanding of clinical issues, defining the clinically relevant testing parameters, modifying design parameters, interpreting applicable industry standards, and ensuring results are provided to the customer.
Execute broad based end to end product development support and design history file documentation within the Sustaining Engineering Team.
Plan and perform tasks for multiple product platforms that are in the post commercialization phase using strong business acumen and problem-solving skill sets.
Focus on the product performance characterization aspects of the product platforms and will lead the technical activities related to planning and executing testing activities as needed to support ongoing supply chain strategy and design transfer activities.
Solve design problems utilizing CAD techniques, rapid/conventional prototyping and other available technologies.
Assess the effect of design changes on mechanical performance and setting acceptance criteria for evaluation.
Develop layouts and tolerance studies utilizing GD&T, and will participate in performing design evaluations (such as FEA, simulated use testing, dry labs and wet tissue labs etc.)
Operate within quality system procedures and will support regulatory processes for global registration efforts.
Solve technical problems related to fixturing, test methodology, unexpected failures and challenging test setups.
Plan, direct, and conduct laboratory and field testing of products and/or components including construction of test systems to simulate use for lab performance and durability testing.
Author test methods and protocols to meet industry and company standards under guidance.
Author lab reports and analyze data utilizing good documentation practices and statistical tools.
Work with Quality engineers to develop or update design control documentation within multiple PLM systems.
Work with manufacturing and supply chain to optimize designs and documentation for manufacturability and assembly to support ongoing supply chain strategy.
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree inMechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering/Bioengineering is required.
A Master's Degree is desired.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience is required.
Experience with medical devices (Spineor Orthopedic) is highly preferred.
Experience utilizing computer aideddesign (CAD) and statistics to develop a product and/or interprettechnical drawings is highly preferred.
Experience with Unigraphics orProE/Creo and Design Excellence/ Six Sigma methodologies would be preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of varioustypes of manufacturing, mechanisms, materials, proper tolerancing, draftingstandards, GD&T, test equipment and statistics are preferred.
Experience reviewing historic design historyfiles and other forms of documentation is preferred.
Proficiency utilizing the MS OfficeSuite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, project etc.) is required.
Proficiency in Mini-Tab is preferred.
The candidate should have ademonstrated background in developing creative solutions to solve design andtesting problems.
Experience workingwithin a cross functional team bringing products from concept to launch isdesired.
Must have the ability to effectivelycommunicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals, surgeons,customers and/ or teams, and work effectively as a team member.
This position will be based inRaynham, MA and may require up to 10% travel.
