As a Sustaining Engineer you will provide Engineering support to existing product lines, working closely with our Production teams and supplier base. You will also conduct failure analyses and develop/implement product improvements.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support sustaining engineering efforts, in conjunction with Quality and Production groups, by the timely disposition of non-conforming material and resolve predictability issues with internal and external manufacturing partners

  • Address field complaints by determining root cause and implement corrective actions under guidance of senior staff.

  • Fabricate prototypes with assistance from production groups

  • Work with internal and external manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturable designs (DFM/DFA)

  • Document design changes by creating and or modifying solid models, assemblies and drawings with Pro/Engineer

  • Develop internal design validation test programs, perform testing as needed and document results

  • Assist in updating DFMEA, PFMEA, and control plans for process/design changes on existing product


Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution

Minimum 2 years experience in 3D modeling and 2D detailing (CAD) experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ProE (Creo)

  • Experience with UL standards and test requirements

  • Experince designing for plastics, injection molded parts, stamped metals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Creates laser and optical design solutions, builds prototypes, and validates designs for use in the ESI line of products. * Oversees engineering life cycle of products including architecture, design, and implementation. * Documents procedures and methods. * Confers with product marketing on writing of functional specifications. * Maintains relationships with suppliers while defining specifications and troubleshooting issues. * Measures project percentage completion at critical stages and implements corrective action as necessary. * This job may on occasion have team lead responsibilities. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. * Other duties may be assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or equivalent in the field of Physics, Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Laser and Optics preferred; or up to 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with solid state, mode locked or fiber lasers is required. Experience with lasers operating from the UV through IR range is required, as is experience in the femto second through nanosecond pulse width range. Experience designing, building, and testing lasers as well as optical components and systems is required. Experience with laser measurement equipment - power meters, probes, beam profilers, oscilloscopes, pulse detectors, etc. is required. Experience with optical measurement and methods is required. Experience with optical systems and optical alignment methods is required. Experience with optical design programs such as Zemax or Code V is required. Special Skills and Abilities * To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent phone and computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). * Works with integrity and ethically and is able to inspire the trust of others. * Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong technical problem solving skills. * Ability to support several projects simultaneously, the ability to multitask, work on a team, and prioritize. * Completes complex tasks on schedule while delivering quality output with a minimum amount of supervision. * Ability to travel to internationally sometimes on short notice in support of ESI system installations. Requires appropriate work authorization to freely enter and exit primarily Asia Pacific countries. Primary consideration will be given to US Citizens and US Green Card Holders. Travel expected up to 10%. * Strong business, analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills * Motivated, self-driven, positive approach to problem solving. * Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, high tech environment.
