Overview

We are looking for college students who want professional level experience within the Food & Beverage Industry and have the initiative, skills and drive to excel.

This internship will provide working knowledge and experience with sustainability initiatives, planning and reporting, as well as warehouse receiving, inventory, and other general F&B operations to ensure the overall success of the Food & Beverage Operations at The Palm Beach County Convention Center.

This is a key position for the effective and profitable operation of the business. The intern must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work a variable event-driven schedule which includes evenings and weekends. Open availability, professional presentation, outstanding interpersonal skills, self-direction and strong management and independent decision-making skills are required.

  • Pay: $14.00 / hour

  • Not to exceed 20 hours per week

  • Internship Dates: Fall Semester

About the Venue

The Palm Beach County Convention Center is a multi-purpose facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, managed by the Oak View Group. The Center features a 100,000 square-foot exhibit hall, a 22,000 square-foot ballroom and 21,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, as well as connecting to the 400-room Hilton West Palm Beach.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Food & Beverage Management Team, the candidate will....

  • Assist with brainstorming, coordinating and facilitating Sustainability initiatives at The Palm Beach County Convention Center that promote local environmental, energy, economic, and social sustainability within the F&B department.

  • Assist with brainstorming and planning future sustainability initiatives to implement as a part of the building's upcoming expansion plans.

  • Assist in training all F&B staff and creating a "buy-in" culture for our sustainability programs and efforts.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the Purchase Order system is adhered to for all orders received at the warehouse; verify proper specification, size, quantity, etc. of goods received; supervise proper labeling, dating and stocking of supplies.

  • Assist the Office Manager with processing Purchase Orders and invoices.

  • Maintaining and managing sanitation and organizational systems of all warehouse storage areas.

  • Assist in developing new blueprints for optimized storage across all F&B storage spaces (Dry Goods Warehouse, Pantries, Equipment Shelving, etc.)

  • Assist in optimizing new inventory travel paths for Culinary and FOH to decrease waste.

  • Assist with record keeping as needed.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building, exposure to loud noises, and standing for long periods of time.

Qualifications

  • Current College Student

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in the most productive and/or appropriate manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work in a team setting.

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Previous experience in a customer service-based industry is preferred.

  • Previous experience within a food and beverage related field is preferred.

  • Willingness to learn and open to coaching.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  • Proficient in Canva preferred

  • High level of demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and ability to maintain sensitive information.

  • Forklift certification a plus

  • Food Service certification a plus
