JOB TITLE: SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM MANAGER

DEPARTMENT: Office of the President

REPORTS TO: Director of Capital Projects

SALARY: $120K - $130K

LOCATION: 133 W 21st St New York, NY 10011

SCHEDULE: In person four (4) days per week and one (1) remote day per week

POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to Director of Capital Projects, Office of the President The SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM MANAGER will lead the energy management program to support and advance the School of Visual Art's (SVA) sustainability efforts. The Program Manager will evaluate, manage and optimize heating, cooling and water consumption across a portfolio of 1M square feet in 18 buildings, and manage the campus energy dashboard. They work collaboratively with capital and facilities staff to identify and implement best practices for efficient equipment operation, develop capital projects and energy management programs, and train staff to make best use of energy, water, and utility management tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain a system of consistent, efficient and reliable energy management.

  • Oversee energy studies and coordinate projects to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Partner with Facilities staff to establish and implement a comprehensive energy reduction plan.

  • Develop project scopes, schedules and budgets; coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins and contractor access; and visit sites regularly through close-out. Ensure targets are met for quality, cost, schedule and safety.

  • Work with consultants to develop standards, protocols, design specifications and controls improvements for energy management systems and recommend improvements.

  • Develop capital plans to meet regulatory goals economically and effectively including NYC Local Laws 84, 87, 95, and 97, and SVA energy initiatives, such as electrical demand response, mandated energy usage reporting, and the Mayor's Challenge Program.

  • Coordinate with Facilities to develop projects and staff training that increase the control, efficiency and operational flexibility of BMS across the campus. Develop weekly reporting with vendors.

  • Identify cost-savings opportunities including grants, incentives, rebates, tax benefits and financing.

  • Coordinate Campus Energy Dashboard building integration. Manage building energy and utility data and communicate to occupants to educate, impact behaviors, and reduce energy consumption.

  • Manage data for energy performance metrics including historic use, monthly use, annual usage, and EUI comparison calculations to track energy use, carbon emissions, and related metrics.

  • Create and maintain strategic relationships with key utilities and energy reporting vendors. Manage the Accounts Receivable process for utility bill purchase orders and track payments from input to closing.

  • Fulfill project reporting requirements with NYSERDA's On-Site Energy Manager Program

  • Establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with all stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors' degree, from an accredited college/university in Engineering or equivalent required.

  • Five (5) years professional experience with energy management and related capital projects.

  • Familiarity on how to drive energy optimization.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements including NYC Local Laws 84, 87, 95 and 97.

  • Working familiarity with local incentive programs including Con Edison and NYSERDA.

  • Familiarity with construction documents, and understanding of construction trades and work.

  • Strong data management and analysis skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, problem-solve, and remain calm in high-pressure situations.

  • Self-starting attitude with proven ability to work independently and effectively within time constraints, and on multiple projects simultaneously.

PREFERRED:

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Certified Energy Manager/LEED AP or other relevant accreditation/certification

  • PE Accreditation

  • Experience in navigating new energy management systems ( i.e. HEMS, BEMS, etc.)

  • Higher Education facilities management experience.

  • Experience in educating individuals and groups about new concepts and resources.

  • Proficiency with Google Apps, Microsoft Office and GRITS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness and ability to perform periodic inspections of site conditions and project progress, including climbing stairs and ladders, accessing roofs, mechanical and electrical rooms.

  • Ability to climb/stand/bend/stoop/reach above shoulder level

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work in tight spaces

  • Working Environment will be an Office and Field Work

  • Ability to occasionally work outside of normal office hours, work evenings and/or weekends.
