Sustainability Officer

Sodexo has an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Officer to support a Washington, DC based client.

The Sustainability Officer will provide oversight of the clients' sustainability program focused on the clients' sustainability goals and certification maintenance. The Sustainability Officer is responsible for analyzing current energy usage and developing the client's energy management plan in order to provide proper environmental conditions with cost effective energy utilization. Provides technical knowledge of the various LEED rating systems, LEED Online process and EBOM.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical knowledge of the various LEED rating systems, LEED Online process and EBOM.

  • Serves as clients' sustainability champion by successfully communicating initiatives, goals and information on client's behalf.

  • Providing planning and management of sustainability programs and projects involving energy reduction, water efficiency, purchasing, waste reduction, indoor air quality, alternative transportation, and green building operations.

  • Manage the IMF recycling program a including:

  • Monthly assessing, improving, and tracking of all recycling program waste streams to increase waste diverted from landfill and reduce total waste generated on site.

  • Conducting regularly scheduled inspections for compliance of the waste recycling program including operations for recyclables, compost, e-waste, hazardous and universal waste, facility alteration and addition waste, and durable goods for donation or reuse.

  • Identification of recycling program compliance problems; and recommending solutions, training, or changes required to resolve the problems to improve diversion rates.

  • Conduct periodic waste stream audits.

  • Assists with technical review, analysis and inspection of maintenance work in IMF facilities in order to determine methods of energy conservation and coordinates with building managers in making operational recommendations to conserve energy.

  • Evaluates building systems for proper operation and recommends repairs and/or renovations that are necessary to continue effective operations of IMF facilities in conserving energy costs.

  • Integration of LEED\Sustainability language into professional specifications for Admin, Tenant and Capital Improvements Projects.

  • Initiate work orders and assignments in order to lessen energy consumption in IMF facilities.

  • Maintain and manage a utilities consumption database to monitor and audit utility billings and consumption.

  • Develop long-range plans for implementing energy conservation and recommend sound policies directed towards energy conservation.

  • Evaluate and develop potential projects or activities to lower utility costs to the IMF and conserve energy, taking into consideration payback potential and other benefits.

  • Promotes and coordinates energy conservation and sustainability measures with administration, facility managers, concerned staff and key stakeholders.

  • Assists in developing and maintaining budget documents for predicting energy usage for future year budget.

  • Compile utility budgets and energy conservation measure cost estimates based upon documented program needs.

  • Provide regular reports as to the overall effectiveness of the energy management program.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5- years relevant business experience with strong data analysis; advanced Excel and intermediate proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.

  • Certification Requirements:
    LEED AP+ O+M

WELL AP preferred

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's Degree

Basic Management Experience

  • 5 years

Basic Functional Experience

  • 3 years of experience in energy conservation, energy management, or related field

Job Summary This is a remote, home-based position that can reside anywhere in the Continental USA within a one hour commuting distance to a major international airport. The Wellness and Sustainability Project Manager is responsible for business analysis, process improvement, and development and project management services of nutrition and sustainability programs that support the Chartwells K12 strategic plan. Key Responsibilities: Management * Coordinates the development, management, and evaluation of compliance, nutrition, wellness, and sustainability initiatives. * Develops training programs that assist field with implementation of compliance, nutrition, wellness, and sustainability programs and coordinates with Compass Learning Management Systems. * Coordinates with internal Chartwells and Compass teams to develop Chartwells compliance, wellness, and sustainability activities and protocols; coordinates measurement and evaluation of results. * Coordinates with culinary team on development, implementation and measurement of menu initiatives with Webtrition and Nutrislice integration. * Coordinates with culinary and marketing on development, implementation and measurement of Discovery Kitchen initiatives and other mutual topics. * Supports Webtrition development, training, audit protocols and field support structure. Compliance * Assists with interpretation of current regulations and policies including but not limited to USDA, FDA, state legislation, school district policy, and local wellness policy. * Recommends activities and training to maintain compliance with all applicable policies and regulations. * Coordinates Chartwells Food Allergy and Medical Condition Program according to regulation and external partnership requirements. * Coordinates and reports Chartwells compliance with Compass sustainability targets and develops programs to support improvement toward goals. Training and Education * Coordinates the development, implementation and measurement of Chartwells nutrition, sustainability, and compliance training. * Develops wellness and sustainability educational materials for all stakeholders including students, associates, parents, clients, and administrators. * Utilizes eLearning software to create trainings, and collaborates with Compass Learning and Development to launch and monitor trainings on Compass' Learning Management System. * Coordinates with marketing and Chartwells' online menu platform, Nutrislice, to develop and implement wellness and sustainability education programs. Qualifications: * Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required. * Master's degree in Nutrition or related field strongly preferred. * Licensed by the State Dietetics Licensing Board in states where applicable required. * Minimum of five (5) years of experience (post Dietetic internship) working as a Registered Dietitian required. * Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the food service industry required. * Experience working with electronic menu management systems required. * Experience working in a highly regulated food service environment required. * Project Management experience managing long-term projects in a matrixed environment involving multiple stakeholders across an organization required. * Successful new program development experience required. * Ability to travel up to 10% required. * Experience working in a School Foodservice environment, Grades K-12 strongly preferred.
