Position Summary

Responsible for providing data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, mapmaking, mining, land evaluation, construction, or other purposes.

  • Plan and conduct ground survey designed to establish baselines, elevations and other geodelic measurements

  • Determine coordinates and elevations using transits, levels and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS)

  • Verify accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites

  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, and reports in order to describe and certify work performed

  • Coordinate finding with the work of engineering and construction personnel, clients and other concerned parties

  • Adjust surveying equipment in order to maintain their accuracy

  • Additional responsibilities not listed may be required

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years industrial construction/maintenance industry experience

These surveys involve the analysis of record information and collected field data with the application of special knowledge of mathematics, mapping, abstracting and related elements of law. Essential Functions * Provides project management for multiple small-scale projects and larger distribution work orders with minimal supervision of Senior staff. * Supports management in ensuring compliance of office and field staff with safety practices and procedures. * Consults with service area manager, service consultants, developers, surveyors, engineers, attorneys and customers to resolve land and easement related issues. * Coordinates and communicates with survey & right-of-way team members to deliver and complete assigned work. * Directs the field activities of a survey field party to ensure safe and satisfactory job completion. * Supports field crew members and office staff in the compliance and implementation of department's business and technical process. * Supports the technical training of field crews and is an active contributor to the development of field staff. * Responsible for managing the completion and delivery of concurrent work orders and deliverables. * Analyzes collected data and calculates property and easement information. * Researches property records, historical maps & documents, GIS databases and other sources of information to prepare background information for field work and work order execution. * Interprets deeds, maps, field notes easement documents and/or prepare working sketches needed to perform a boundary survey or construction layout. * Assists in the technical supervision of production staff and preparation of deliverables. * Prepares and certifies final maps, sketches, documents and field notes. * Reviews, approves and certifies deliverables prepared by Survey Technicians and Associate Surveyors. * Ensures that all project documentation and close out requirements are handled in compliance with ITM and SAP process guidelines. * Consults and supports management on technical matters related to surveying & right-of-way. * Actively participates and supports improvements opportunities in the Department's business and technical processes. * Evaluates, reports and presents on surveying/Geomatics related technical matters relevant to the company. * Assists in the preparation of proposals and budgets, reports and presentations on projects, business initiatives and process improvements. Basic Qualifications: Education: * Bachelor's degree with at least 32 semester hours of survey related course work. * Must be a Registered Professional Land Surveyor in the State of application. Experience: Requires minimum of 1 year of educational or practical experience in the Geomatics/Surveying.
