This position is located within a National Forest. The incumbent carries out a variety of surveying assignments associated with the Forests engineering and cadastral surveying work.

Conducts simple traverse surveys using manual instruments including compass and chain. Searches, evaluates, and monuments public land corners.
Records and calculates surveying data recognizing inconsistencies requiring supplemental information.
Uses transit, theodolites, electronic distance measuring systems, (and/or other instruments) in the establishment of rights-of-way and land lines.
Records data and makes sketches of topography and other physical features.
May conduct p-line surveys or assist with road location or road design.
May provide leadership and training for lower grade crew members as necessary.

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.
GS-05: (1) One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level.
Specialized Experience is defined as: technical work which provides knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and terminology of surveying to complete assignments. It must have required the use of the pertinent instruments and techniques of surveying. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, working as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, or construction inspector; conducting simple traverse surveys using manual instruments; recording and calculating surveying data; and making sketches of topography and other physical features.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses in surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics.
