S&ME, Inc., a leading design, engineering, environmental and multi-disciplined professional services firm that responds to their clients with innovative, sustainable solutions, is seeking a full-time Survey Manager for our Orlando, Florida location. The selected candidate will join a successful, busy office of engineers, planners, and landscape architects in support of public and private sector projects throughout Florida and surrounding states.


As a Survey Manager, the successful applicant will have increasing experience with:

  • Research public and private land records;

  • Prepare/review final legal descriptions, Survey plats, and field note reductions for accuracy and completeness;

  • Provide periodic field observation as necessary;

  • Performing QA/QC on all surveys;

  • Prepare technical correspondence and complete, comprehensive reports as necessary;

  • Manage client relationships and develop survey business;

  • Prepare scope and fee proposals;

  • Oversee 1-3 survey crews and lead a crew if schedule demands necessitate;

  • Oversee and manage scheduling for all survey crews and sub-consultant crews in Florida;

  • Work effectively with firm leadership and Survey Area Manager.

The ideal candidate will excel at managing several crews on a variety of projects and locations as well as the preparation and development of survey and plat instruments and oversight of the office survey operations. The qualified candidate will be experienced in the management, execution and delivery of projects. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities and to provide superior service is essential.


  • Bachelor's degree preferred;

  • Must be registered as a Professional Land Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) in the state of Florida or the ability to acquire Florida PLS registration within one year;

  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in surveying, including topography, boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, platting, construction staking and preparing legal descriptions, etc. Full and current knowledge of modern land surveying equipment;

  • Experience with FDOT work is a plus;

  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Microstation/Geopak in production of survey documents. Familiarity with Endroads, Carson and/or Eagle Point is a plus;

  • Demonstrated ability to apply the principles of effective project management;

  • Possesses sound judgment and ability to represent the company with effective client relations;

  • Excellent reputation in the survey profession and a proven history of strong client relationships;

  • Ability to communicate and present information to clients and the general public;

  • Ability to work with diverse groups and effective mentor staff;

  • Prefer experience supervising and directing work of survey crews and CAD/survey technicians;

  • Microsoft Office experience desired;

  • Comfortable working in remote work area and associated travel.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference Check program. Applicant must be responsible, highly motivated, and a detail oriented individual interested in joining our Land Surveying team in Orlando, FL as an Instrument Operator. Applicant must be able to work in a team environment as a key member of a survey crew assisting in the performance of boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, and construction surveys utilizing the latest equipment and surveying technology with the ability to supervise the crew or work independently if necessary. The position has opportunity for advancement for a motivated individual willing to grow with the changing skills and technology required of a Land Surveyor. Responsibilities * Assist the field supervisor with all aspects of the daily crew workload * Work in a safe manner and obey all safety regulations * Supervise the survey crew in the absence of the crew chief * Work independently as a one person crew as required * Daily uploading and downloading of data collectors * Operate survey total stations, data collectors and levels * Daily care and charging of instrumentation * Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in technology Required Skills & Required Experience * Minimum of three years of survey experience required * Must have a High School Diploma (Minimum) * Must have good Mathematical skills * Must have good computer and data collector skills * Must be proficient with the use of Topcon and survey equipment. (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors) * Must have good communication skills * Must pass a drug test * Must be dependable * Ability to obtain a security clearance is a plus * Must be able to work overtime as required * Must be willing and able to travel for out of town assignments * Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record * Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains * Ability to repetitively stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes, in addition to ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces * At this time, Dewberry will not sponsor a new applicant for work authorization. * Dewberry is an Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative Action Employer.
