Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will perform surveying services in the field as a part of a two-person crew. They will be responsible for:

  • Performing field work efforts for land surveying services of all types

  • Prepare field staking materials as necessary

  • Operate Trimble GPS and Robotic Total Station data collectors

  • Read and understand engineering and survey drawings, maps, exhibits and field layout documents

  • Maintain field equipment in a clean and secure manner

  • Load and unload field survey equipment and supplies to and from the survey truck

  • Perform pre-start vehicle checks to ensure operability maintenance and safety

  • Upload and Download daily work files

Skills / Qualifications

Role Requirements:

The applicant must have a minimum of 8 years of Land Surveying experience, 4 of which must have been as a Crew Chief. Experience in a supervisory role and a working knowledge of AutoCAD is strongly desired. A combination of education and experience totaling 10 years may be accepted as qualifications for this position. This position will require:

  • Effective verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • A good work ethic

  • Solid time management skills

  • Technical skill in the use of Trimble survey equipment including GPS and Robotic Total Stations

  • Thorough understanding and interpretation of survey plats, record of surveys, topographic maps and construction drawings

  • Travel and out of town work when required may be 40 50 %

  • Must pass drug test, background check, physical and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Experience: * Two (2) years of land surveying experience. Other Requirements: * Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license. Our Preferred Candidate has: * Associates degree or college course work in Land Surveying, Geodesy, Civil Engineering, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry. * National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Certification Level II in Highway Surveys. * Flagman Certification, Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) and/or National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) Certified Survey Technician Level II. * FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Remote Pilot Certification. Essential Job Tasks * Operates land surveying equipment, including but not limited to data collectors, GNSS equipment, total stations and levels. * Actively participates in all assigned surveys; including but not limited to boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction surveys. * Records relevant data in field books and appropriate notes in data collector. * Assists Survey Party Chief with reducing mapping data in the office. * Reads and interprets technical engineering plans and plots. * Assists Survey Party Chief with performing calculations for construction projects in the field and/or office (e.g. roadway grades, curb and gutter grades, utility and right of way locations, and ditches). * Performs construction staking duties including but not limited to, staking out features, placing hubs or nails, placing lath, grading, slope staking and cut sheets. * Trains Survey Aides in the use of surveying equipment.
