Surgical Technology Adjunct Instructor

• Responsible for creating an environment in the lab and/or clinical settings that facilitates learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes.

• Facilitate learner development and socialization of values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill the role of an associate degree surgical technologist.

• Responsible for formulating program outcomes and designing curricula that reflects contemporary health care trends and prepares nursing or surgical technologist graduates to function effectively in the health care environment. • Utilize a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in the lab and/or clinical settings as well as all domains of learning.

• Maintain accurate and appropriate records for the course/clinical rotations.

• Assists in the maintenance of program approval, total program evaluation and program accreditation.

• Participates in recruitment and marketing activities for the Surgical Technology program and College.

• Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

• Facilitates communication between students and instructors within the course leading to early problem resolution and mutual understanding.

• Collaborates with clinical facility staff in scheduling clinical experience for the number of students to the clinical site.

• Plans with Lead /Course Coordinator Instructors and participates in evaluating student progress through the course and attainment of course/clinical outcomes.

• Participates in counseling conferences with instructor and students as indicated in problem situations.

• Assists instructors to maintain continuity and quality instruction in the course assigned.

• Maintains clinical expertise in the clinical areas of instruction. 

• A current CST certification and Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology Required. 

• A minimum of two years' experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the last five years.

• Maintains competence in the operating room as a surgical technologist.

• Maintains AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification.

Other Related Skills: Possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position. Must be eligible to satisfy the clinical agency requirements related to criminal background checks and/or drug testing.
