Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses
Virginia Western, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for Adjunct Faculty to provide classroom instruction in our Surgical Technology Program in the School of Health Professions beginning Fall 2022 (August 2022). Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching discipline and in trends in community college education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree from an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience within the past 5 years.
Experience providing clinical instruction in an AAS Surgical Technology Program.
Current CPR BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
All adjunct faculty positions require excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Surgical Technology or comparable field.
Prior teaching experience in a Surgical Technology Program.
Experience using technology in the classroom.
