This position handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. This position can provide the above-described services for both basic surgeries and complex surgeries.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and preparing instruments for terminal sterilization on completion of the surgery. Assisting the surgical team with cleaning of the operating room on completion of the surgery for the next scheduled procedure.

  • Has developed proficiency in a wide range of technical processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience.

  • Understands the roles of all immediate team members and has a good understanding of how own team integrates with others.

  • Explains complex technical information in situations that may be challenging with respect to controversial subject matter or characteristics of the audience

  • Works within defined processes but may develop an appropriate approach for new assignments

Work Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Required

License and Certifications

  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification issued by an approved organization. (Certification is not required if the employee has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces or was employed as a surgical technologist prior to September 9, 2009. Required

  • If assigned to Sterile Processing & Distribution must obtain Central Sterile Processing certification 180 Days Required

  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification Required

This position mentors and teaches peers and new Surgical Technologists and RNs rotating through specialty. Acts as a resource for staff. Resolves minor equipment/supply, and surgical environment issues. Liaison with Central Sterile Processing regarding upcoming needs for instruments and supplies. Acts in the Surgical Technologist role for assigned surgical procedures. Assists the registered nurse with delegated circulating duties. This position can provide the above described services for both basic and complex surgeries. Must have Surgical Technologist Certification.</p><p>Shift</p><ul><li>0645-1515 Mon-Fri, call and holidays required</li></ul><p>Responsibilities</p><ul><li><p>Supervisor of a team; spends at least 50% of the time providing people leadership to a team</p></li><li><p>Communicates with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner on the phone and in person and the demonstrates use of good written and verbal communication skills.</p></li><li><p>Plans and executes day to day operational needs</p></li><li><p>Maintains staff compliance with state requirements, AORN standards as well as regulatory requirements in the OR.</p></li><li><p>Provides guidance, coaching, and feedback</p></li><li><p>Provides education and quality control for surgical technologists in the OR regarding equipment, sterile technique and managing supplies for all service lines.</p></li><li><p>Works within established precedents and practices; receives guidance and oversight from a higher-level manager</p></li><li><p>Provide proficient skills for surgical services by demonstrating proficiency in the delivery of skills in all basic services. This includes, but is not limited to: General, Otolaryngology, Plastic, Urology, Orthopedic, Dental, GI and Ophthalmic Surgery.</p></li></ul><p>Work Experience</p><ul><li><p>At least 4 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist</p></li><li><p>Leadership experience desired</p></li><li><p>ENT/EYES experience preferred</p></li></ul><p>Education</p><ul><li><p>Two-year Associate's Degree or equivalent experience required</p></li><li><p>Four-year Bachelor's Degree of equivalent experience preferred</p></li></ul><p>License and Certifications</p><ul><li><p>Current Surgical Technologist Certification issued by an approved organization.
