This position handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. This position can provide the above-described services for both basic surgeries and complex surgeries.
Responsibilities
Cleaning and preparing instruments for terminal sterilization on completion of the surgery. Assisting the surgical team with cleaning of the operating room on completion of the surgery for the next scheduled procedure.
Has developed proficiency in a wide range of technical processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience.
Understands the roles of all immediate team members and has a good understanding of how own team integrates with others.
Explains complex technical information in situations that may be challenging with respect to controversial subject matter or characteristics of the audience
Works within defined processes but may develop an appropriate approach for new assignments

Education
License and Certifications
Current Surgical Technologist Certification issued by an approved organization. (Certification is not required if the employee has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces or was employed as a surgical technologist prior to September 9, 2009. Required
If assigned to Sterile Processing & Distribution must obtain Central Sterile Processing certification 180 Days Required
Current Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification Required
