Summary:

Functions

as a member of the Surgical Team to provide a safe and therapeutic environment

for the Surgical patient and to assist the surgeon. Provides care for patients

of all ages including infant child adolescent adult and geriatric.

Responsibilities:

10.0pt">- Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in instrumentation and

materials such as sutures.

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Demonstrates proper preparation and passing of needles sutures

surgical drains medications and hemostatic agents.

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Assists the surgeon as necessary anticipating needs.

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Demonstrates knowledge of surgical field set-up including knowledge

of instruments and equipment.

including OR time by:

10.0pt">- Using physician preference cards

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Anticipating needs of the team

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Using the proper resource person

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Selecting equipment and supplies in an organized and timely manner

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Uses supplies in a cost-effective manner

10.0pt">

10.0pt">

including but not limited to:

10.0pt">- Surgical scrubbing donning of gowns and gloves

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Creating and maintaining surgical field(s).

10.0pt">- Attentiveness to contamination possibilities responding appropriately

when it occurs

10.0pt">

Items/Surgical Counts protocol.

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">Demonstrates competency in preparing and utilizing

equipment including but not limited to:

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Harmonic scalpel

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Lasers

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Suction devices

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Hydrothermablation machines

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Tourniquets

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Generators

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- All powered instruments

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Drills

10.0pt">

10.0pt">- Saws

10.0pt">

physicians and other surgical services staff.

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">Assists in safely moving patients to and from the

operating table.

10.0pt">

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">Demonstrates knowledge of the proper procedure for

the breakdown of the sterile field and preparation of instruments for

decontamination and return to Central Supply and Processing.

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">Maintains a positive professional relationship with

peers patients patient families/care-givers and other colleagues.

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">Maintains current BLS certification.

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">Participates in lifelong learning through continuing

education.

mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt">Participates in community activities.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required

  • Completion of at least one of the following options is required:

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or

  • Graduate of a surgical technologist associate degree program or

  • Current certification as a CST or

  • Current NCCT-TC (tech in surgery) certification (for applicants with past military experience only; military experience as a surgical technologist will be strongly considered) or

  • 3 years of experience within the past 5 years as a surgical technologist

  • Successful completion of a Lifespan on-the-job surgical technologist training program

  • Current BLS Certification is required upon hire

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

None.
