EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High School Graduate or equivalent
Graduate of an approved and accredited Surgical Technology Program
LICENSURES/CERTIFICATION:
Current Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required
Must successfully complete and maintain BLS certification
Must successfully complete and maintain LA County Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These are the essential job functions for this position. The essential functions of this job include, but may not be limited to those listed in this job description. Employees hired for this position must be able to perform the essential function of this job without imposing significant risk of substantial harm to the health or safety of themselves or others):
Must demonstrate technical competence, professional clinical judgment, communication skills and sensitivity for the surgical patient and family.
Ability to scrub in the OR setting and to assist in the surgical preparation and recovery of patients as required.
Assists the surgical team during operating procedures as appropriate.
Consistently maintains and monitors aseptic technique.
Documents maintenance and repairs.
Identifies and prepares appropriate instrumentation, supplies and equipment based on identified surgical procedures.
Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies.
Must demonstrate knowledge/understanding of Infection Control; Hand washing; use of gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); foam antiseptic; and decontamination of equipment prior to and after use.
Must demonstrate knowledge/understanding of Surgical Environment: Unrestricted, Semi-restricted, and Restricted areas; positive pressure environment; air exchanges, closure of doors at all times; surgical dress code; refrigerator and fluid/blanket warmer temperatures; and protocol for out -of-range temperatures.
Must maintain HIPPA at all times.
Provides comfort and support for operative patients and families. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's care and privacy.
Strict adherence to AORN Standards and Infection Control practices.
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor follows policies and procedures for completion of all logs reports as assigned.
Understands and Participates in PI/QI process. Actively participates in achieving unit or hospital quality initiatives such as Patient Satisfaction, DNV regulatory compliance, DHS requirements, and selected PI projects.
Salary Range: $30.50 - $39.15 per hour
