The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent employment opportunity for qualified individuals interested in the Surgical Technologist position. The department currently has two (2) vacancies at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in the surgical unit located in Martinez, CA. You will be required to work on-call as needed.
Surgical Technologists prepare surgical supplies and equipment for use in surgery and assists the surgeon at the operating table as the scrub nurse member of the surgical team; and performs other related duties as required.
The surgical unit provides six spacious, ultramodern operating rooms equipped with the latest in medical instrumentation. The technologically advanced surgical unit uses new, environmentally friendly sanitizing techniques to assure patient safety and confidence. We offer convenient dressing rooms for patients, a comfortable waiting room for family and friends, a private meeting room for family members to consult with their loved one's physician, and a 22 bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Special services particular to this area include gynecological, general, orthopedics, thoracic, neurological, ophthalmic, vascular, plastic, dental, podiatry, and limited pediatric. On weekends and holidays, twenty-four hours shifts of "on call" provide service to emergency patients.

What you will typically be responsible for:
Preparing and organizing the operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies as required for various surgical procedures
Anticipating surgeon and patient needs during a procedure
Preparing, checking, and monitor medications
Assisting with dressings and taking care of specimens
Setting up a sterile and sanitary environment; maintaining the sterile field for patients during procedures
Following relevant safety and sanitation guidelines
Participating in the orientation and education of all operative room staff on an ongoing basis
Participating in stocking and restocking medical supplies
Participating in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months. Certificate: 1) 1) Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Surgical Technologist issued by the issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); 2) Possession of a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or CPR by the American Red Cross.
Substitution: Either 1) successful completion of a surgical technologist training program certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); or, 2) one (1) year of full-time, or its equivalent, experience as a Surgical Technologist completed prior to January 1, 2015 and current enrollment in a surgical technologist training program certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). If hired, applicants qualifying under this pattern will be required to complete the training program prior to the completion of their probationary period.
Desirable Qualifications:
1.Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
2.Training and Experience Evaluation: At the time of filing, within the supplemental questionnaire, candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire. Candidates that clearly meet the minimum qualifications, as described above, will have their training and experience responses evaluated. The training and experience questionnaire is designed to measure candidate's relevant education, training, and/or experience as it relates to the Surgical Technologist classification. (Weighted 100%).
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
CONVICTION HISTORY
After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
