Cert Surgical Technologist (CST)
The Certified Surgical Technologist functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and within the parameters established by Frisbie Memorial Hospital. The primary function of the Certified Surgical Technologist is as the scrub technologist in the surgical suite.
The Surgical Technologist assumes responsibilities as delegated by the RN and is accountable for his/her own practice. S/he has a responsibility to maintain clinical competence and certification through continuing education, literature review, and the Quality Improvement process.

Works collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare workers in implementing an optimal plan of care for patients.
Acts as a patient advocate and liaison with other disciplines.
Is proficient and knowledgeable in equipment use and recognition of malfunction.
Implements his/her actions to meet patient needs and problems in an efficient manner with appropriate utilization of resources.
Functions in the 1st and 2nd scrub roles, assisting in surgery under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
Uses creativity and sound judgment in adapting his/her interventions to fit the patient's needs.
Acts as a resource person for staff and participates as a team member in achieving optimal patient outcomes.
Attends staff meetings and mandatory inservices.
Maintains certification as applicable and meets unit specific requirements.
Is dependable, punctual and does not abuse sick time.
Assigned weekend, evening, and holiday call coverage may be a requirement of the Surgical Technologist
Non-Essential Position Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned or as necessity dictates within the parameters of accepted practice.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of technical training, currently certified or certified-eligible as an Operating Room Technician, or more than 10 years of verifiable experience functioning in the role of a scrub person, or physician assistant with demonstrated competencies.
Experience: Must possess a broad knowledge of surgical procedures in all services, with practical experience desirable.
