Position Objective:

The Certified Surgical Technologist functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and within the parameters established by Frisbie Memorial Hospital. The primary function of the Certified Surgical Technologist is as the scrub technologist in the surgical suite.

The Surgical Technologist assumes responsibilities as delegated by the RN and is accountable for his/her own practice. S/he has a responsibility to maintain clinical competence and certification through continuing education, literature review, and the Quality Improvement process.

Essential Position Functions:

Works collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare workers in implementing an optimal plan of care for patients.

Acts as a patient advocate and liaison with other disciplines.

Is proficient and knowledgeable in equipment use and recognition of malfunction.

Implements his/her actions to meet patient needs and problems in an efficient manner with appropriate utilization of resources.

Functions in the 1st and 2nd scrub roles, assisting in surgery under the direct supervision of the surgeon.

Uses creativity and sound judgment in adapting his/her interventions to fit the patient's needs.

Acts as a resource person for staff and participates as a team member in achieving optimal patient outcomes.

Attends staff meetings and mandatory inservices.

Maintains certification as applicable and meets unit specific requirements.

Is dependable, punctual and does not abuse sick time.

Assigned weekend, evening, and holiday call coverage may be a requirement of the Surgical Technologist

Non-Essential Position Functions:

Performs other duties as assigned or as necessity dictates within the parameters of accepted practice.

Position Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of technical training, currently certified or certified-eligible as an Operating Room Technician, or more than 10 years of verifiable experience functioning in the role of a scrub person, or physician assistant with demonstrated competencies.

Experience: Must possess a broad knowledge of surgical procedures in all services, with practical experience desirable.

VIEW JOBS 9/19/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-18T00:00 Position Objective: This position is responsible for the supervision of the patient access staff in the day-to-day activities and the execution of departmental policies and procedures required to efficiently and effectively manage the patient servicing needs, and hospital administrative requirements related to patient registration. Patient Population Served: This position does not perform direct patient care, but interacts with patients, patient's family members and/or legal representatives via telephone, email and in person. Essential Position Functions: Provides assistance and coverage as needed to registration and centralized scheduling staff during peak volumes; performing the duties of coordinator and/or scheduler as needed. Supports staff during periods of downtime/disaster drills. Responsible for accurate and timely data-entry of patient demographic and billing information. Develops monthly schedules to ensure proper shift coverage. Contributes to the 90 day new hire evaluations and annual performance review process, providing direct input to the Director, Patient Access. Conducts payroll approval for direct report staff. Trains all new hires on Meditech, Relay and Patient Access policies and procedures, hospital policies and regulatory requirements as they may impact the patient access role. Provides off-site Lab and Radiology visits twice a year. Educates other areas as needed on registration policies and procedures, insurance changes and regulatory requirements as they may impact registration role. Assists in the development and administration of competency assessments of the patient access staff to ensure employees are well trained and able to perform the essential job functions of their roles. Assists Director in budget management process by adhering to controlled supply ordering/maintenance protocol. Assists with release testing and quarterly upgrades for Meditech REG, CWS, ARM and ADM modules. Tracks errors and reviews results with individuals to ensure 2% or less error rate is maintained on patient registrations. Provides coverage for the Director, Patient Access when absent. Develops various training programs or in-service training programs as deemed appropriate. Collaborates with the Director, Patient Access on issues related to employee discipline and department workflows. Attends meetings and participates in department improvement projects and/or Hospital strategic planning projects as requested. Ensures staff are adhering to policies and procedures related to payment collections and brings any issues or concerns to the Director, Patient Access. Maintains maximum level of confidentiality of information and records in compliance with HIPAA and all applicable laws and organizational policies. Establishes and delivers training programs for all levels of registration staff on both hospital-wide policies and procedures, and those that require regulatory compliance (HIPAA, etc.). Reviews and revises the training programs annually (unless otherwise mandated or directed). Assists in evaluating and improving the level of patient satisfaction. Conducts ongoing enhancement training/refresher courses to ensure continued employee development/growth. Assists with development and maintenance of yearly schedule of education and training. Develops and maintains a procedural manual for all Registration roles. In coordination with the Director, Patient Access, develops and maintains policies as related to training/education. Non-Essential Position Functions: Performs other duties as assigned or as judgment or necessity dictates. Position Qualifications: Associate Degree in Business Administration or related field. Will consider three years of additional direct experience in patient registration/scheduling in a healthcare setting in lieu of degree. Three to five years related experience in patient registration/scheduling in a healthcare setting required. Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology, medical insurance coverages, insurance verification and pre-certification processes preferred. Ability to prioritize work and work independently with minimal supervision. Skilled with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and EMR systems, Meditech preferred. Able to set priorities, exercise initiative and judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.
