Surgical Technologist - ASC Operating Room

Perioperative Services strives to be the safest perioperative environment in the world, to have the highest quality of perioperative outcomes, and to demonstrate the core values in our vision. Partnered with Anesthesiology and Critical Care, the Division of Nursing and the Division of Surgery, this multidisciplinary team performs more than 15,000 surgical cases each year in more than 30 operating rooms spanning the Main Building and Mays Clinic.
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of recent Surgical Technologist experience. Open to new graduates.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in preparing operating rooms for a variety of surgical procedures. Uses aseptic technique, sets up tables and trays, lays out instruments, syringes, sutures, needles and other supplies. Opens operative packs, counts sponges and prepares sutures. Gloves and gowns surgical team to include assisting the surgeon in draping the patient. Anticipates surgeon's needs and gives appropriate instruments and equipment to the surgeon. Cleans table and cares for instruments after completion of surgery.
EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Completion of an accredited operating room technician program.
EXPERIENCE
Required: None.
Preferred: Two years of surgical technologist experience.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required: One of the following: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). New graduate must obtain and maintain certification by the 180th day after date of graduation from an accredited school of surgical technologist. Employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility prior to September 1, 2009. Completed appropriate training program for surgical technology in the military of the United States or in the United State Public Health Service.
