Assistssurgeon during operative procedures, Cesarean Sections and otherprocedures. Ensures operative suite is adequatelyprepared for procedure. Monitors PARlevels of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and prepares for sterilization allsurgical instruments.
Accurately completes operating/delivery roomcounts (instruments, sponges, needles); follows proper procedure in the eventof incorrect count; reports all discrepancies to Circulating RN and surgeonand/or corrects immediately.
Accurately handles specimens at all times.
Always maintains an orderly and sterile instrumenttable for the purpose of efficiency; follows department standard set up.
Anticipates needs of surgeon during intraoperativephase.
Assists in positioning, prepping and draping ofpatients for surgical and other procedures.
Carries out medical/surgical asepsis duringtreatments/procedures.
Checks all equipment/instruments needed, prior toeach procedure to ensure proper functioning. Is responsible for cleaning and preparing instruments for sterilization,
Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures andafter last case; restocks supplies, when necessary and organizes effectivelyfor end-of-case clean up.
Follows aseptic technique, when opening sterilesupplies and setting up procedures.
Performs servicesrequiring technical or manual skills under the direction of Circulating RN inan environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood oferrors.
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
Other: Training commensurate with Surgical Technologist certification isrequired
American Heart Association BLS is required
Certified in Surgical Technology or eligible totake Surgical Technology Certification Exam is desired
