  • 1.0 FTE is Full-Time, any position less than 1.0 FTE is Part-Time, and .001 FTE is Optional Part-Time*
  • Positions with an "FTE" (full time equivalency) of .8 - 1.0 are eligible for full-time medical, dental and vision benefits. Positions with an "FTE" of .5 - .799 are eligible for part-time pro-rated medical, dental and vision benefits*

Shift: Shift 1

Responsibilities:

As a member of the healthcare team, collaborates with the surgical team to provide care for patient insuring that the goals of the patients are met and the mission of the hospital is carried out. Other duties as assigned.

Summary:

Three years of full-time equivalent experience as a Surgical Technologist is required. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required upon hire. Surgical Technician Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologist is required.

Other information:

Serves as a resource to others and/or as a preceptor to new staff.

The Surgical Technician's primary role is to assist surgeons in the FMLH operating rooms . They are responsible for preparing patients, OR rooms and equipment for surgical procedures. The ST works as a member of the team at the surgical field itself, handing instruments to the surgeon as necessary and helping to manipulate the patient and the wound to enable the surgeon to work effectively, as well as receiving instruments and supplies from the circulator. Surgical Technicians work under the direction of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective care of our patients during the surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Most Surgical Techs eventually choose or are selected for a service pod. In others words, they specialize. This is an important aspect of their development.
