In this PRN position, the Surgical Technician cares for and maintains all surgical instrumentation and sets up supplies and instruments for eye surgery cases. This role anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
1.Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures.
2.Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
3.Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse.
4.Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
5.Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated.
6.Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
7.Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
8.Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
9.Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
10. Acts in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Completion of a Scrub Technician Program. Certification preferable.

  • Knows operating room instrumentation.

  • Ability to prepare reports and keep records.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.

Required Experience

  • Eye surgery experience required.

Facility Profile: Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. Department Profile: Our expanding unit performs over 17,000 procedures a year offering challenging and rewarding work in orthopedics/podiatry, general/GYN, plastics, urology, ENT, dental and more. We possess an extensive minimally invasive program in several specialties using the latest laparoscopic treatment technologies. Currently we have four robots which are used daily for GYN oncology, urology, ENT and general surgeries. Pediatric surgery has expanded to four fully integrated suites that were specially designed to produce optimal outcomes for our pediatric population. We perform heart, lung, liver, kidney (cadaveric or living donor) and kidney/pancreas transplants as part of our very busy transplant program. Work Hours/Shifts: M-Th; 4 days/2 12's, 2 8's * $5,000 Sign-on Bonus available for eligible candidates (see terms below) Job Summary: Under general supervision, a surgical scrub technician/nurse assists with the patient care in surgery by performance of technical and other delegated duties. Functions as a member of the surgical team, as a scrub person by providing care to surgical patients of age specific groups identified in the unit standards of care (may include neonate to geriatric). Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
