Overview

Mercy Medical Center (MMC), a Dignity Health member, is a 186 bed acute care, religious sponsored, not-for-profit hospital located in the city of Merced, California. MMC opened on May 2, 2010 and employs over 1,300 people, making it one of the largest employees in Merced County.

MMC has a professional relationship with more than 250 local physicians. Major programs and services include: one licensed acute care facility with a family birthing center, intensive care unit, emergency care and four floors housing, telemetry and medical/surgical nursing units. There are three outpatient facilities, Mercy UC Davis Cancer Center, Mercy Outpatient Center and the Mercy Medical Pavilion.

Services at these outpatient centers include home care, physical and cardiac rehabilitation, ambulatory surgery, cancer care, laboratory, imaging and endoscopy. MMC primary service area includes the cities of Merced, Atwater, Winton and the County of Merced.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Physician and Registered Nurse, assists in the performance of technical surgical procedures in the operative environment. Sets up the operating room for procedures according to physician preference card and the type of surgical intervention to be performed, the patient's age, developmental and size considerations.

Performs selected surgical scrub functions in the operative suite involving patient preparation, as well as preparation of the suite and attendant instruments and supplies. Patient age populations served, and the specific competencies that comprise this job title are found in the Department/Unit Orientation & Initial Assessment of Competency checklist for this unit/positions, and -by reference- form a part of this job description.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate

  • Completion of an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program or Certified Surgical Technologist designation from (AST or NCCT)

  • Must be able to take call shifts as assigned. Not required for MOSS.

Extra-Help are not entitled to county benefits and are limited to 25 hours a week. Extra-Help pay is $19.23 - $21.20 per hour. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Operates CAL-ID Program Equipment. Photograph and fingerprint prisoners, suspects, and applicants Take palm prints and handwriting samples Prepare fingerprint files. Question prisoners to obtain information. File and compare with unknown latent fingerprints from crime scenes. Index fingerprints. Court Testimony Search records of prisoners. Prepare photo lineup. Assist in preparing evidence for court and may testify in court. Prepare reports and complies statistics. Check and reviews a variety of information and documents for completeness and conformance with established regulations and procedures. Enter information into a computer terminal. Respond to inquiries from other Sheriff's Department personnel and other agencies. Register convicted narcotic and sex offenders. Research documents. Classify fingerprints. Question prisoners to obtain information files and compares with unknown latent fingerprint from crime scenes. May provide lead direction to other personnel assigned to the ID Division. Assist Agencies in crime scene investigations. Process extraditions. Education: High school graduation or equivalent. License: Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain. OPTION II Experience: One (1) year experience employed in a position dealing directly with the public. Education: Possession of an Associate in Arts degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or completion of Level I of the P.O.S.T. Reserve Officer Training Program. License: Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain. IDENTIFICATION TECHNICIAN II OPTION 1 Experience: Three (3) years' experience with a law enforcement agency/professional investigations entity in crime scene and physical evidence investigation equivalent to that of an Identification Technician I. Education: Possession of an Associate in Arts degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or completion of Level I of the P.O.S.T. Reserve Officer Training Program, or equivalent training. Additional directly related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. License: Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain. OPTION II Two (2) years' experience with a law enforcement agency/professional investigations entity in crime scene and physical evidence investigation equivalent to that of an Identification Technician I, plus one (1) year of experience employed in a position dealing directly with the public. Education: Possession of an Associate in Arts degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or completion of Level I of the P.O.S.T. Reserve Officer Training Program, or equivalent training.
