Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Surgery Assistant is a skilled member of the Allied Health Care Team who provides clinical support and operating room assistance under the supervision of a licensed physician. The Assistant works with a wide range of health care professionals to deliver direct patient care before, during, and after surgery.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Vocational/technical graduate of a surgical technologist program. CEU's needed to maintain certification.

Preferred/Optional: None

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: Minimum of two years' experience in a first assist surgical capacity. Must have knowledge of and ability to perform in all surgical cases and respond to emergency situations.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required:

• BLS Certification through the American Heart Association (AHS) required within three months of hire.

• May require additional specialty or department-specific certifications (where applicable).

Preferred/Optional:

• BLS Certification through the American Heart Association (AHS) at time of hire.

• Surgical Technologist certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Those without the certification are encouraged to complete continuing education credits equal to the requirements to maintain certification.
