Responsibilities
Leadership:
Assists in creating a positive work environment by mentoring of staff/students, and working with team members to develop and facilitate initiatives to strive for positive outcomes in quality and care of patients.
Complies with all policies and procedures, and guides team members with compliance.
Reliable attendance is an expectation of the team member role, as well as a leader in the unit.
Professional Growth:
Assumes responsibility for continued growth in areas of competencies, lifelong learning and involvement in unit and hospital quality of care projects. Specialty certifications and continuing education are strongly encouraged.
Supports use of Evidenced Based Practice and incorporates best practices into daily care routine.
Participates in mandatory education and unit meetings per established guidelines.
Compiles with all safety goals, infection prevention and risk management policies and procedures.
Completes annual mandatory education.
Communication:
Communicates utilizing the FOCUS standards in all aspects of care and interactions with others.
Collaboration:
Practice indicates compliance with HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and all other regulatory agencies.
Demonstrates the ability to be flexible in meeting needs of the unit as a team member.
Operating Room Functions:
Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of an Assistant Surgical Technician in accordance with established procedures as required.
Assists in carrying-out safe aseptic techniques and procedures as outlined in the Operating Room Policy & Procedure manuals; observes & reports contamination &/or breaks in aseptic techniques.
Assists in the maintenance & handling of special instruments & equipment.
Always maintains responsibility for ensuring safe patient care.
Utilizes patient care & unit supplies in a manner that is both patient care & cost effective.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Must be enrolled in an approved Surgical Technology program.
Experience:
None
Preferred Experience: Prior hospital and/or office experience desirable.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Certification is encouraged
Must be BCLS certified through AHA upon hire of within 90 days from the date of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to meet the competency of unit assigned to and be able to successfully complete orientation
Must be able to meet reliable attendance guidelines
Must be able to perform the essentials functions of the job, including ability to communicate effectively
Able to distinguish colors
Able to read, write, comprehend, and speak English
Other:
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
