Stamford Health is currently seeking an experienced Surgical Physician Assistant to join our team! This is an immediate need for a Physician Assistant to work in the Surgical Subspecialties at Stamford Hospital. This is a full-time position requiring clinical work, OR First Assist and supervision. The PA assists in the evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with a variety of medical and surgical problems that range from chronic disease, acute illness and episodic disorders to health care maintenance. Under the direction of or in consultation with a physician, provides a broad spectrum of general patient care. Patient population includes Urology, Neurosurgery, Oral and Maxillofacial and ENT patients at Stamford Hospital & Tully OR. PAs may cover for general surgery during surgical resident didactics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performs the duties of the clinical functions of a Physician Assistant in surgery.

  • Recognizes patients, who require immediate attention of a physician, and, when necessary, initiates, without supervision, emergency medical treatments.

  • Provides clinical management of the surgery patient in the acute care setting. Arrange for consults at the direction of the attending physician. Discusses treatment plans with the attending physician.

  • Develops, implements, and documents treatment plans in conjunction with physician in a timely manner and according to standards.

  • May provide education, instruction, and counseling as indicated after assessing the learning needs of the patient and family regarding their plan of care and discharge planning.

  • Manages time schedule and completes all assigned patient rounds prior to end of the shift. Signs out all pre-op notes on assigned patients to on-call PA prior to end of the shift.

Qualifications of the Ideal candidate:

  • B.A./B.S. and completion of 2 years accredited P.A. training program.

  • Current NCCPA certification required.

  • 1 year emergency/surgical residency beyond formal training is preferred.

  • 1 year of surgical PA experience desired.

  • BLS is required. ACLS and PALS desirable

VIEW JOBS 11/14/2021 12:00:00 AM 2022-02-12T00:00 The Chief Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) is a state licensed, board certified, highly trained and skilled individual who is qualified to assist the surgeon in all phases of care for the surgical patient. Surgical services includes primarily urology and neurosurgery but also some oral-maxillofacial and ENT. The Chief PA manages a team of 6 PAs and provides liaison functions between PAs, staff physicians, administration, interdisciplinary departments, and external groups. The individual must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree and be a graduate of an ARC-PA approved training program. State licensure is required as is continuous certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Continuous Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is desired. Robotic skills desirable. Counseling may include topics such as medications, diets, social habits, family planning, normal growth and development, aging, and understanding of and long-term management of their diseases. * Initiate arrangements for admissions, complete forms and charts pertinent to the patient's medical record, and provide services to patients requiring continuing care, including patients at home. * Initiate and facilitate the referral of patients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies, and resources of the community. * Order, transmit an order for, perform, or assist in the performance of laboratory procedures, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures. * Recognize and evaluate situations that call for immediate attention of a physician and institute, when necessary, treatment procedures essential for the life of the patient. * Perform surgical procedures without the personal presence of the supervising physician.
