Description

A clinically competent Surgical Assist who works under the supervision of the surgeon in delivering safe and effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period. Effectively interacts with the patient and health care team members, while maintaining the Surgical Department standards.

Assists the surgeon under the direction of the surgeon with the safe delivery of care during the intra-op phase of care. Assists the OR team with the set-up and take-down of the Operating Room prior to and at the end of the surgical case. Those Surgical Assistants with dual training / certification - SA / CST - will support the OR team in the role of CST when no SA assistance is needed.

Qualifications

Required: Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program upon hire and receive Surgical Assistant Certification within 6 month of hire.

BLS within 30 days of hire. Desired: Recent Hospital experience, 0-2 years, and/or previous practice experience.

Description The Anesthesia Technician, under the guidance of the registered nurse Anesthesia Technicians assists with stocking of supplies, cleaning, and performs other duties as requested. Included within this assignment is the responsibility for ensuring effective communication between him or herself, the charge nurse, the patient, other staff, physicians, and other hospital departments. \ JOB STANDARDS: - Assist in Inventory management, ordering and stocking of anesthesia supplies. - Order Anesthesia supplies from storeroom daily - Stock Anesthesia supplies in Operating Rooms daily - Stock medications in Pyxis machines for pharmacy as needed - Clean and stock in Operating Rooms between cases - Report equipment problems to Biomed and Anesthesia as needed. Assist in facilitating loaner equipment as necessary - Assist in evaluation of new equipment and supplies - Assist Anesthesia with anesthesia procedures as needed ex: difficult airway, arterial lines, nerve blocks- Orient new staff and students to anesthesia supplies and equipment - Communicate regularly with Anesthesia Charge provider about changes in supplies, medications, equipment, back orders, substitutions - Maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives regarding performance improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control - Assists in housekeeping duties and cleanliness of department as directed to insure safe patient environment - Assists in transportation of patients when directed, maintaining age appropriate safety measures AA/EOE Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent required - Prefer previous experience in hospital setting - Knowledge of growth and development as pertinent to job duties - Current recognition in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of employment Northwestern Medicine De Kalb IL
