Occ Summary Perform a variety of technical, environmental, and patien t care dutiesunder the direct supervisionof a Registered Nurse. These du ties are performed in accordance withestablished hospital andnursingpol icy and within the legal scope of practice for theunlicensed caregiver.
Work Performed Level I Verify patient location and identification. Trans ferand/or assist patients during transport, following departmental safet yguidelines. Communicate with patients and respond to patientneeds promptly, satisfy needs or refer their requests to appropriate personnel.
Keep charge nurse informed of room statusand attendant availability. A ssist in the orientation of newstaff as requested by nurse manager or de signee. Provideemergency assistance as required and/or directed by surg eon and/ornursing personnel.
Transport specimen,equipment, etc. toappr opriate area in safe and efficient manner. According to theplan of car e developed by the RN, deliver patient care appropriate tothe age of the patientsserved. Successfully complete annualself-instructional unit r egarding age appropriate care for the infant,toddler, child, adolescent, adultand geriatricpatients.
Prepare the unit for cases/ procedures util izingfunctional equipment and supplies. Assist with positioning thepatie nt and follow accepted procedures for preparation of patients forsurgica lprocedures. Assist with wraps, casts, anddressings.
Routenon-functi onal equipment to proper maintenancedepartment forrepair, noting on equi pment what the malfunction appearsto be.Assist in minor maintenance func tions (i.e. replace lightbulbs in power sources and surgical lights).Set up andtroubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of all equipme nt inother services. Accurately and safely use all patientpositioning de vices and tables. Clean equipment, tables andfloor as required with prop er cleaning solution.
Collect, bagand remove soiled linen and trash prop erly. Replace suctionliners, trash bagsand other supplies as needed. Re turn cleanedequipment to appropriate area after the case.
Stock and main tainadequate levels of supplies at scrub sink and sub rooms asappropriat e. Maintain orderly work environment by keepingoperating rooms, storage areas, hallways and all units clean, tidy andhazard free. Obtain and maintain unit supplies andequipment.
Level II Perform all duties of L evel I inaddition to the following: Serve as a resource and role modelf or Surgical Attendants and others. Provide leadership andguidance to Su rgical Attendants under the direction of anRN.
Assist with daily assig nments in cooperation with unitmanagement representatives. Cooperate i n planning orientation ofnew Surgical Attendants, under the supervision of an RN. Providefeedback to management representative regarding orien tation/ skills ofnew employees.
Serve as a resource and role model for SurgicalAttendants and others. Provide leadership and guidance toSurg ical Attendants under the direction of an RN. Assist withdaily assignm entsin cooperation with unit managementrepresentatives.Cooperate in pla nning orientation of new
