Under the direction/supervision of the Core Desk Nurse Coordinator, Nurse Manager, Nursing Director or AVP of Surgical and Perioperative Services, the Surgery Unit Coordinator (U) provides clerical support, promotes a professional atmosphere, and effective communication with physicians, patients, and staff.

  • Answers telephone calls and routes or takes messages appropriately.

  • Greets medical staff to include providing directions when needed.

  • Preserves a clean, safe, and functional work area in the assigned unit.

  • Maintains unit inventory and orders supplies when appropriate.

  • Maintains equipment in good working order at all times.

  • Prepares reports and enters data and information into applicable systems.

  • Keeps leadership and managing staff informed on unit issues.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Certification and Licensing:

N/A

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office)

  • Ability to operate office related equipment (i.e., copier, fax machine, scanner, etc.)

Department Specific Functions

  • Promotes a calm, professional atmosphere that enhances productivity and a positive corporate image utilizing effective public relations and communications skills.

  • Utilizes a calm, friendly, professional approach when communicating with supervisors, nurses, technicians, physicians, staff, and visitors.

  • Demonstrates the ability to answer the department phones promptly, and professionally.

  • Reports and prioritizes incoming messages accurately and forward the message to the appropriate person timely.

  • Coordinates the ordering, maintenance of par levels, and delivery of unit-specific office, dietary, and patient care documentation forms as approved by the supervisor.

  • Ensures a clean, safe, functional, and professional environment.

  • Enters electronic work and repair requests on a timely basis.

  • Prepares and updates the staff on-call lists on a timely manner, and accurately.

  • Completes assigned tasks, and duties accurately and promptly.

  • Maintains departmental employees' records.

  • Updates personnel contact information as needed accurately.

  • Greets vendors and verifies that they have the approved materials management badge for compliance with hospital policies.

  • Keeps PPE areas well stocked with hair covers, shoe covers, cover-alls, and mask always. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Utilizes
