General Summary:
This position provides support to the Orthopedic Surgeons. The Surgery Scheduler maintains physician's clinics and surgery schedules, provides direct assistance to physicians, and manages communication and correspondence directly with staff, patients, physicians and the Practice Manager. The Surgery Scheduler will also act as a liaison for specialist vendors. The Surgery Scheduler also maintains exceptional communication with local hospital and outpatient facilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Surgery Scheduling:
Use electronic medical records to complete patient or Physician task requests
Schedule surgery for multiple providers
Communicate professionally with OR, assisting physicians, patients, and insurance companies
Obtain Authorization for in and outpatient surgeries & procedures
Verify patient medical and pharmacy benefits
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation
Complete referrals accurately and appropriately
Obtains patient and billing information for surgery assists
Assist patients with EDD claim forms
Keeps monthly log of all surgeries, confirms OP reports received, and submit reports to PM Monthly.
Direct Patient care:
Answer phones in a professional manner
Schedule appointments for multiple providers
Take messages for multiple providers and document in electronic medical record
Address patient requests and inquiries
Confirm patient appointments
Mail recalls and correspondence
Scan and file as needed
File duties
Miscellaneous:
Special projects or requests by Practice Manager
Back up Administrative positions
General
Remains calm and effective in emergency or high pressure situations
Collaborate with team members on various ongoing projects
Perform all other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated punctuality, reliability, and professionalism
At least one year of related medical office experience
Prior surgery scheduling experience preferred
Demonstrated and exceptional follow through and completion of tasks
History of exceptional customer service skills
Ability to multi-task effectively
Strong attention to detail
Understanding and usage of medical terminology
Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes
Expertise in effective, tactful communication skills
Experience with and proficiency in use of electronic medical record systems; use of Allscripts software a plus
Ability to read, write, do arithmetic, and apply reasoning skills equal to at least that of the average high school graduate.
Proficient computer skills and accuracy of data entry
Ability to work unsupervised
Education:
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.
Experience:
Two years of experience in a medical clinic or physician's office.

The compensation for this role listed on this posting is in compliance with applicable law. The selected candidate's compensation will be determined based on the individual's skills, experience, internal/market equity factors, and qualifications. This posted minimum and maximum range represents the minimum and maximum of what we reasonably expect to compensate for the position. Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy. Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
