As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor (Title 32) (Promotion Not to Exceed One Year), WS-5801-15, you will perform the below duties:
Plans overall allocation of personnel and resources for the organization. Ensures accomplishment of work operations which because of their scope, volume, and complexity are planned on a year or longer basis. Analyzes work plans developed by subordinate supervisors for accomplishment of assigned work orders, projects, and the status of work accomplished. This is in relation to overall schedule requirements, including unanticipated or emergency requirements.
Explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines and sequence of operations. Coordinates and directs the work of units supervised. Balances work load for subordinate work groups.
Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by supervisors. Makes formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them. Determines long-range training needs for all levels of subordinates, submits funding and budget requests with justification for approval, and arranges for the accomplishment of training.
Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised. Implements and complies with agency, state, and Federal regulatory Occupational Safety and Health, and environmental requirements.
Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

REMARKS: TEMPORARY PROMOTION Position opened to current employees in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program. Selected applicant will receive a temporary promotion Not to Exceed 1 Year. Should the need for temporary time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Temporary Promotion could be converted to a permanent action without further competition. Additionally, applicant selected can be returned to the position held prior to the Temporary Promotion when the temporary action is no longer needed.
WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel Commissioned Officers (O-1/2LT - O-3/CPT) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Commissioned Officers (O-1/2LT - O-3/CPT), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.
Military Grades: Commissioned Officers (O-1/2LT - O-3/CPT)
Compatible Military Assignments: O:BR: 88A, 90A, 91A, 92A
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 36 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WS-14 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WS grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
Experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems.
Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment.
Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems.
Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems.
