MISSION / SUMMARY:
The Supervisor has the responsibility, authority and is accountable to make decisions regarding job assignments, work priorities, and overtime requirements.
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Directs the day-to-day activities of the shift.
Responsible for the resolution of shift issues.
Ensures all schedules and releases are met.
Provides daily communications to the shift.
Responsible for performance counseling of individuals for unacceptable performance relating to safety, quality, productivity and/or inappropriate behaviors to include disciplinary action if required.
Prepares and distributes shift report.
Performs daily audits to ensure that safety, housekeeping, basic care rounds, and established job standards are followed.
Uses what he/she finds on audits and review of countermeasure sheets to upgrade standard work or install new systems to prevent problems from reoccurring.
Serves as liaison to communicate identified problems to support team as well as problem status feedback to the crews.
Supports mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity and continuous improvement.
Accountable for overall shift performance in accordance to established key performance indicators (KPI's) to include: safety, environmental, housekeeping, quality, cull and production efficiency. Takes necessary actions to ensure goals are achieved in a team environment by leading or promoting problem solving and development of countermeasures with or by crew members.
Completes all shift accident investigations within 24 hour period. Ensures corrective action is taken to address issue.
Manages individual job assignments and crew member training plans with assistance from other department personnel.
Audits assigned trainers to ensure Macon Training System principles are followed and coaches trainers in areas where improvement is needed.
Responsible for the daily management of the time/attendance system.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) to Ten (10) years previous experience with paper machine operations.
Three to five years of previous supervisory skills preferred with paper machine operations.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
Good interpersonal skills, able to influence people.
Good organization skills.
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Able to motivate people to perform at a higher level.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
SAP experience a plus.
Must be able to work rotating shift schedule.
Willingness and ability to fully manage 24/7 operation directly and through direct reports
Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
Work on/around paper machines, stock prep equipment, power house and waste water equipment, etc.
Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
