Job Description


Lead employees to ensure customer satisfaction by moving all shipments on time and damage free.

1.Lead, educate and develop company employees
2.Supervise and direct employee work and monitor employee performance, including administration of discipline as appropriate. Be accessible to all areas of the dock and inside trailers; trailers may be at the dock or in the yard.
3.Plan daily manpower needs and set schedules to ensure customers' freight is delivered and picked-up timely and damage free
4.Communicate with dispatch at various terminals and with dock employees to coordinate the movement of trailers and freight
5.Develop plan for distributing break loads to achieve cut time goals
6.Monitor service freight and ensure cut time compliance
7.Monitor and analyze all opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiencies
8.Assist customers with rate quotes, claim information and setting appointments
9.Monitor actual performance data and gather information for reporting
10. Communicate with Account Manager(s) to ensure customers' and company's needs are met
11. Identify freight moving at incorrect weight and classification
12. Ensure all OS&D is identified and processed properly
13. Conduct pre-shift meetings and provide education to employees as necessary
14. Perform administrative functions such as printing delivery receipts, manifest shipments on a trailer, billing freight bills, trace shipments, etc.
15. Implement company policy
16. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
17. Perform other duties as required

  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able to travel as needed

  • Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)

  • Prior management experience, preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of LTL Industry, DOT Rules and Regulations, OSHA Laws, Hazardous Materials Regulations, NMFC and Tariff Rules, as well as company policies and procedures, preferred

  • Able to work without management present and take initiative without immediate local supervision

  • Multi-tasked oriented and possess good organizational skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet


  • Dock environment; exposure to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, noise

  • Hours may vary due to operational need

  • Frequent contact with service center personnel; fast-paced, deadline oriented

Responsibilities: * Equipment Manager directs, and coordinates activities of workers engaged in servicing and repair of vehicles and equipment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. * Ensures that every vehicle and piece of equipment is functioning properly. * Establishes policies for inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and communicates those policies. * Determines weekly and monthly repair schedules to reduce or eliminate downtime; communicates the schedules to the appropriate people. * Confers with the dispatcher and Operations to arrange for vehicles and equipment to be released from service for inspection, service, or repair. * Schedules repairs in a timely, cost-effective manner; assigns and directs activities of service and repair personnel; and follows up on repairs being made. * Establishes procedures for tracking costs associated with large and small equipment repairs; tracks costs and reports to the Vice President of Operations as necessary. * Establishes a list of reliable vendors and ensures the best pricing and delivery for all shop and equipment related services and materials. * Authorizes and arranges for purchase of shop supplies and tools. * Consults with Operations on vehicle and equipment replacement needs. * Contracts for repair services not performed in shop. * Works with the Safety Director to investigate and evaluate cause and extent of damage to equipment involved in accidents or malfunctions. * Tracks equipment utilization in Heavy Job or equivalent to ensure accuracy. * Reviews and approves all tool and equipment purchases for the shop and field. * Responds to requests for rental equipment; orders and tracks the equipment; also establishes the hourly rate and communicates the activation and deactivation of the equipment to the appropriate people Ensures that all rental equipment is returned in a timely manner. * Establishes and monitors all fuel deliveries. * Monitors warranty periods on all leased and purchased equipment * Monitors changes to DOT regulations; communicates any changes to all affected departments and keeps the company in compliance. * Operates the shop within budget and according to established policies and procedures. * Oversees the maintenance of the corporate office building and grounds; this includes work performed by employees and/or outside vendors for HVAC, lawn care, snow removal, security, etc. Supervisory Responsibilities * Directly supervises 1-2 mechanics in the Shop. * Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. * Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Skills / Qualifications Education / Experience * Minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Proficient with Excel * AEMP or GCSAA certification, or equivalent, for equipment managers is required.
