General Position Summary:

Contribute to the distribution of product from Columbia Sportswear Company's main Distribution Center by ensuring the timely, accurate and efficient operation of the department.


  • Supervise the assigned area and its employees. Includes scheduling employees to ensure adequate department coverage. Monitor workflow, anticipate changes and adjust staffing as needed. Work with the coordinator in training department personnel in proper work methods and ensuring these methods are followed.

  • Protect well being and safety of department personnel by training employees in safe work practices. Confirm that these practices are being followed, through supervision and follow-through. Ensure that all equipment is safe, in good working order and properly maintained.

  • Coordinate with other departments and technical support staff to ensure smooth flow of information and product.

  • Coordinate with the department manager to ensure proper staffing of temporary help and full time positions.

  • Maintain efficiency and production goals for individuals and the department.

  • Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear Company management, staff and other departments in order to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.

  • Ability to cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interact with coworkers to accomplish common tasks.

  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.

Job Scope:

Job involves recurring work situations with frequent variations from the norm. Variety exists in terms of problem resolution (frequency, types of problems etc.) and managing multiple tasks. Job involves a moderate degree of complexity. Incumbent provides input on departmental practices and procedures. Duties are performed with general and/or specific directions given and work is checked or verified more by results. Decisions are made within general Distribution Center guidelines. Errors in judgment can adversely affect the flow of product from the Distribution Center, resulting in customer dissatisfaction and possibly loss of sales.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Job includes full supervisory responsibility for department personnel. Includes providing input on employee evaluations, approving any absences or overtime, hiring, terminations, pay changes, payroll records, job changes, and training.

Interpersonal Contacts:

Contacts are normally made with others inside the organization. Internal contacts include other department members, other Distribution Center departments and Customer Service. Interactions tend to focus on information exchange and problem solving. Contacts frequently contain confidential/sensitive information. Incumbent usually initiates contacts on his/her own either by phone, radio and via face-to-face interaction.

Specific Job Skills:

  • Possess working knowledge of warehouse operations and computerized distribution systems. Ability to read, write, and speak English.

  • Mental ability to conduct interpersonal interactions with company personnel.

  • Possess intermediate level of computer skills.

  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently and with discretion.

  • Physical ability to use telephone, move freely around the Distribution Center, stoop, crouch, sit and stand for extended periods of time, regularly lift/carry up to 40 pounds and push up to 80 pounds.

Education and/or Experience:

High school education or equivalent. Three to five years experience in warehouse operations in progressively responsible positions. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Job Conditions:

Job may require hours that often exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week to complete priority projects. Exposure to Distribution Center machinery/equipment such as conveyor belts, forklifts and loading docks. Exposure to computer CRT.

DIR OF DISTRICT MGT- DEP (CENTAL DISTRICT) The DEP Central District office is seeking a highly qualified candidate with the right energy, attitude, drive, and expertise for a high-level managerial position located in the Central District office in Orlando Florida. The Assistant Director of District Management (ADDM) reports to the Director of District Management and is one on a team of managers who are responsible for overseeing multi-disciplined programs of over 60 staff serving the eight counties in the Central Florida area. Additionally, in the Director's absence, the ADDM is expected to oversee all facets of the Central District office. Position Duties and Responsibilities: * The ADDM will assist in effectively managing the staffing and equipment needs within the district's budgetary resources. * The ADDM will assist in the identification of future leaders and experts within the Department and effectively assist in mentoring these individuals. * The ADDM will also assist in all other personnel matters within the District office. * The ADDM serves as the district office's liaison for any matters regarding inspections, compliance or enforcement, regardless of media type. * This managerial position is responsible for maintaining effective internal communications with each of the regulatory divisions in Tallahassee and other districts as a means of ensuring state-wide consistency. * The ADDM shall ensure that subordinates keep with the agency's mission, standards, values, and expectations for fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, excellence, honesty and teamwork. * This position is considered to have regulatory duties, directly supervising Environmental Administrators and/or Managers, Environmental Consultants and Career Service Staff, including annual performance appraisals of direct reports. * This position will ensure that an effective training program is in place to support cross-media inspections and career pathing. * This position will ensure that an effective compliance outreach program is in place to further the Department's compliance assistance efforts. * In the Directors absence, the ADDM is expected to oversee all facets of the District office. * Inspections The ADDM is responsible for supervising inspectors across all district office regulated media – air, waste and water. In this capacity, the ADDM shall be responsible for ensuring the consistency of inspection programs across all district office regulated media and ensuring that all applicable levels of service are met for each program. * Compliance and Enforcement This ADDM is responsible for matters related to compliance and enforcement actions across all district office regulated media, including ensuring cross-media consistency of all potential enforcement actions. * Emergency Response This ADDM is responsible for overseeing district Emergency Response staff who responds to environmental pollution threats in every form, which may involve petroleum spills caused by vehicle accidents to chemical plant explosions to coastal oil spills. These staff provide technical and on-site assistance to ensure threats to the environment and human safety are quickly and effectively addressed. * Perform other duties as assigned.
