Job Description

The Supervisor of Transportation oversees all aspects of the development and planning of policies and procedures related to the transportation of patients, employees, and materials (e.g., specimens, mail, treatments, etc.) across/between MSKCC sites. This encompasses oversight of the patient/staff vans, cargo vans, transportation staff and other resources. Ensures timely communication between the transportation team and other areas/depts, and quality transportation of materials that support patient care. Manages, coordinates and evaluates the operation and maintenance of vehicles, process of specimen transport, and activities of transportation staff in accordance with regulatory requirements.

You Will:

  • Operations: Evaluates and implements on continual basis, operations and administrative policies and procedures of transportation services.

  • Ensures that the transfer of materials (e.g., supplies, specimens, chemotherapy, blood products, prescriptions, and other goods) between sites is handled efficiently, safely, and on schedule.

  • Ensures the safe, courteous transport of patients, their caregiver and staff between sites when applicable.

  • Ensures that all vehicles are cleaned, maintained, operational, appropriately inspected and registered.

  • Staff Supervision: Hires, mentors/trains, and provides operational guidance to and ongoing performance management of assigned staff.

  • Collaborates with administrative leadership team and Employment to recruit and fill vacancies in a timely manner with qualified candidates. Assesses potential candidates against required skills, job requirements and needs of the department.

  • Oversees the development and implementation of department orientation programs, including initial orientation and training schedules prior to the arrival of new employees; notifies (instructs) appropriate staff of responsibilities in the process. Determines and addresses training needs of staff.

  • Training: Oversees and/or conducts training for new and existing staff. Maintains accurate records of all training programs and establishes training schedule to ensure JCAHO compliance.

You Have:

  • High school diploma required.

  • Experience in transportation functions.

  • Experience in supervision or management.

  • Experience in a hospital environment preferred.

  • Clerical skills to complete written records, to make financial reports, to document activities.

  • Ability to work with, direct and supervise activities of others.

  • Ability to plan, schedule, implement, and follow through on activities of the department.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  • CDL Class B Driver's license required.
