Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Support Service Coordinator for the Manteno Veterans' Home. This position will serve under the direction of the Public Service Administrator, this position will serve as the shift coordinator for the Veterans Home dietary unit, scheduling work and overseeing the performance of duties, maintaining operating records, and preparing routine or special reports as requested or required by the Public Service Administrator. Job Responsibilities

  • 35% Serves as designated lead worker and shift coordinator for assigned shifts with rotating days off.
  • 25% Consults with superior concerning new advancements, techniques, and methods of the service area.
  • 15% Coordinates the activities of staff assigned to the dietary unit.
  • 10% Monitors stock of supplies and equipment for area.
  • 5% Coordinates and inspects work performance of outside contractors within the service area to ensure and verify presence of contactor and quality of performance required by contract specifications.
  • 5% Prepares routine or special reports to submit to supervisor.
  • 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of High School.

  • Requires two (2) years of experience, such as could be gained at the Support Service Provider level in dietary.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • One (1) year of experience instructing others in dietary procedures.

  • One (1) year of experience communicating clearly in English, both verbally, and in written form.

  • One (1) year of experience operating and providing maintenance of all machinery and equipment found in the support service area.

  • Thorough knowledge of procedures to carry out responsibilities assigned to area.

  • Working knowledge of applicable methods applied to dietary management.

  • Working knowledge of such areas as accounting, business management and human relations

  • Working knowledge of computer use and of word processing.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health related policies and guidance.

  • Requires ability to pass a background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.

  • Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

  • Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
