The Support Assistant - Inpatient, under the direction of the Department Manager, provides secretarial support in all aspects including greeting of patients/ families and visitors, communication ( written or phone), patient processing (ie. registration, order entry, scheduling, billing ...) and as liaison between departmental licensed professionals and patients, families, referring physicians and business associates. The support assistant performs clerical functions to maintain the integrity of the medical record ( written and electronic) within the EMR, and/ or RIS and PACS systems, ensuring the timely delivery of results and correspondence to patients, referring physicians and other licensed caregivers. The support assistant is the gateway to the department and responsible to provide excellent customer service to patients, families, physicians, licensed care providers and business associates.
Essential Job functions:
Courteously greet patients and other clients, determine their needs and accurately complete the scheduling and registration process, providing the necessary information and education to the patient. Respond to patient timely, in person, via phone or online request.
Ensure all necessary information ( ie. Orders, history) is available at the point of service for the scheduled appointment. Clarify any inconsistencies prior to the patient arrival, whenever possible. Direct patient, visitors to the appropriate treatment area, effectively communicate information required for patients, visitors and others or seek others to meet the information need.
Demonstrate consistent knowledge of information systems procedures and protocols in order to accurately and efficiently process patients within the system.
Provide assistance appropriate to the age of the patient by meeting their physical and emotional needs to process orders efficiently, schedule procedures, release of information and provide clerical support for other needs.
Complete all necessary documentation and image distribution by following established protocols and procedures to maintain the integrity of the patient medical record, written and electronic.
Ensure the safety of patients, families, workers and physicians by following all safety policies. Effectively communicates all safety precautions to patient's pre procedure. Complies with all personal safety policies and procedures.
Maintain competency and understanding of all billing procedures, accurately complete information within the established time requirements. Maintain an understanding of the pre certification process and provide information and support as requested.
Coordinate services between departments to facilitate the care of the patient at the time of service, request and schedule appropriate support services (ie. MAC sedation, hydration, CPS) for the appropriate care of the patient.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate or Certified from a medical asst/medical secretary program preferred 2 year healthcare/office experience requiring a high volume of patient and public interaction. Knowledge of medical terminology as demonstrated by experience or education.
License/Certification: BLS required
