Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Supply Technician 2, (Moving Services) Administrative Services [R0143128]

ROLE of the POSITION

The primary role of this position is to ensure all Moving Services requests are completed safely, efficiently, and within service levels. This is a customer service oriented position that will respond to inquiries via email, phone, in person, and ticketing systems according to Business Affairs standards.

Under the supervision of the Moving Services Supervisor, the incumbent will assist with a variety of logistical tasks, including; relocating office furniture, supplies, equipment, Surplus goods, etc. The incumbent will partake in the assembly and disassembly of furniture and cubicles, office rearrangements, delivery of equipment and supplies, and additional tasks as assigned. The incumbent will demonstrate the ability to work independently, and within a team to provide superior services to faculty, staff, students, and vendors. Additionally, this position will support all Delivery Service functions for the university and contribute to all Logistics support services offered by the department. This position will be required to work across all functional lines within the Department in support of Moving/Logistics Services, Shipping and Receiving, Property Control, Surplus Center, and Mail Services.

The position is exposed to extreme weather conditions for prolonged periods complicated by heavy lifting and physical exertion. There is an exposure to situations/circumstances that require safe practice/procedural assessment regarding resources (tools, labor, equipment, etc.) to perform responsibly.

The incumbent is expected to maintain and safely operate material handling equipment, practice proper lifting techniques, and adhere to Risk Management and OSHA guidelines and policies. Additionally, the incumbent will uphold policies put forth by the NSHE Board of Regents, and the State of Nevada, Governor's Office.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for Moving Services.

  • Train Moving Services staff in the safe operation of all equipment, tools and vehicles.

  • Ensure staff completes maintenance on equipment and vehicles.

  • Offer and promote employee and staff development opportunities.

  • Ensure service levels are met and tasks are completed safely in a timely manner.

  • Assign tasks, set goals and ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner, in accordance with service policy and procedures.

  • Contribute to the creation, documentation and updating of department training materials, policies and procedures.

Operational Duties:

  • Respond to customer inquiries via email, phone, in person, and ticketing systems according to Business Affairs standards.

  • Safely operate tools and equipment to relocate a wide variety of goods, equipment, freight, boxes, trash and furniture.

  • Drive vehicles, trucks, forklifts and carts to facilitate the safe transportation of material.

  • Use proper hand and power tools to assemble and disassemble equipment for use and transport.

  • Review/Complete weekly TDX work orders.

  • Review/complete/ Approve weekly equipment safety checklist.

  • Support Surplus operations and auction sales by palletizing and transporting freight, coordinating delivery of Surplus transfers to Surplus Center.

  • Safely operate tools and equipment to relocate a wide variety of goods, equipment, freight and packages across Campus.

The incumbent will use a wide variety of material handling equipment to complete assigned tasks. Some of the equipment used by a Supply Tech include; pallet jacks, flatbed carts, furniture dollies, forklifts, and hand trucks.

Additional responsibilities include; assisting Property Control with the receipt, tagging, and distribution of assets to Campus, assisting customers with preparing UNLV Surplus and Moving Services Requests, and observing and upholding all federal, state, and NSHE regulations and policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition for continuing employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of stocking, storeroom or warehouse experience which included purchasing a variety of supplies, equipment and materials, maintaining inventory records, inventory storage and handling, and shipping and receiving materials and equipment; OR one year of experience as a Supply Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

  • Forklift certification

  • Hand and power tools handling experience

  • The physical ability to lift and move heavy objects throughout a normal workday

  • Strong customer services skills

  • Familiarity with people management skills

SALARY

Grade 27 Step 1, salary $41,634.72. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
